Sola Sobowale: Return of an acting Queen

After The Wedding Party screened to the Lagos media in 2016, Sola Sobowale, who played mother of the bride in the box office shattering film declared that she was back from a hiatus spent in London. The actress, screenwriter, director and producer had taken a break from the Nigerian movie industry that loved her so much it had the Toyin Tomato nickname for her, and gone to take care of her children.

Well, she is back and has been on movie sets ever since. No sooner had she wrapped up shoot for the sequel to The Wedding Party than she got on location for a Tade Ogidan film titled Golden Statue.

She got into her career as a member of the Awada Kerikeri Group led by the actor, Adebayo Salami. Some of the films she has either acted in, written, produced or directed are, Asewo to re Mecca (1992), Dangerous Twins (2004), Ohun Oko Somida (2010) and Family on Fire (2011). She has also featured hugely on television soaps and somehow managed to keep a family. She is a true Lagos big girl.
