Lagos rice trader defrauded by ‘soldier’ week after suffering burglary (Punch)

A businessman, Abiodun Adewale, has accused a yet-to-be-identified man of stealing his five bags of rice valued at N117,500 around the Command Barracks area in Ipaja, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect posed as a soldier when he contacted Adewale on the phone to supply him 12 bags of rice for some soldiers in the barracks.

After reaching an agreement on the price for the goods, the suspect directed the trader to deliver them at a location in the barracks.

Adewale told our correspondent that he connected a delivery man with the suspect, who directed him to deliver the goods at the same location. Read more

23-yr-old chef jailed 28 years for killing lawyer inside Lagos hotel (Tribune)

An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old chef, Joshua Usulor, to 28 years imprisonment for killing a 34-year-old lawyer, Mrs Feyisayo Obot.

The chef killed the lawyer on January 26, 2019, at the Citiheights Hotel, Opebi, Lagos State, where both of them lodged in different rooms.

Usulor murdered Obot, an Abuja-based mother of two, by slitting her throat while robbing her in her hotel room.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo sentenced Usulor after he approached the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for a plea bargain agreement in which he would plead guilty to the crime. Read more

Pregnant woman, fake soldier arrested for drug trafficking (Guardian)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), continued their nationwide ‘offensive action’ against drug traffickers in the past week, seizing hundreds of kilograms of illicit substances at the airports, courier firms, hideouts and destroying hectares of cannabis farms in the remote forests.

Attempts by a female passenger, Isesele Obehi and one Emmanuel Chibuzor Omebere to export illicit drugs to Europe through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja were thwarted by narcotic officers who arrested them shortly before they boarded their flights.

While Isesele was nabbed on Saturday, September 11, 2021 during outward clearance of Ethiopian Airline flight at Gate B departure hall of the Lagos airport on her way to Milan, Italy with 312 sachets of Tramadol, weighing 1.5kg, concealed in crayfish and dried vegetables, Chibuzor was equally caught with 137.45 grams of the same drug concealed in foodstuff at the Abuja airport on Thursday, Septémber 2, during outward clearance of Turkish Airline flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Court remands man for allegedly stabbing girlfriend to death (Punch)

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has remanded a 25-year-old man, Victor Abasiama, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death. The police charged Abasiama with murder.

The presiding magistrate, Mr W.A. Salam, who did not take the plea of Abasiama, ordered that the defendant should be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the issuance of legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Temitope Adegbie, had earlier told the court that Abasiama committed the offence on August 25, at Ebute Area in Ikorodu.

He alleged that Abasiama stabbed his 23-year-old girlfriend, Cynthia Edeya, with a knife on her head and stomach. Read more

Falana demands inquest into murder of 18-year-old admission seeker (Punch)

A human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has requested a Lagos high court sitting in Ikeja to conduct a corona inquest into the circumstances surrounding the killing of an 18-year-old admission seeker, Monsura Ojuade.

Ojuade was reportedly in front of her parents’ house on Mogaji Street, Ijesha, Surulere, when some anti-robbery officers from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, stormed the community around 11.30pm last Friday.

The policemen had reportedly raided the area and shot indiscriminately during which a bullet penetrated Ojuade’s two thighs.

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in the community but was rejected and later gave up the ghost. Read more

Lagos police arrest robbery suspects, reject N500, 000 bribe (Guardian)

The Lagos State Police Command have arrested an armed robbery suspect and suspected cultist with a locally-made double barrel gun and three cartridges.

The suspects were arrested by the patrol team of the Area ‘J’ Command, Elemoro. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the armed robbery suspect, 23-year-old Alabi Timothy, a resident of 9, Baale street, Majek, Ajah, was arrested at General Paint, Garden area, Lekki during a routine stop and search by the police. 

According to Ajisebutu, a locally-made double barrel gun and two live cartridges, including an expended cartridge concealed in a bag, were recovered from the suspect. Read more
