Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen delivers injury update after leaving Johan Cruyff Arena on crutches (Metro)

Jan Vertonghen has admitted that adrenaline got him through Tottenham’s incredible 3-2 victory over Ajax in the Champions League semi-final after suffering an ankle injury but he is confident he’ll be fit in time for the final.

Spurs will face Liverpool at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Saturday, June 1 after both clubs miraculously came from 3-0 down against Ajax and Barcelona respectively to win their ties and reach the final.

Vertonghen played the full 90 minutes of Spurs’ win over Ajax on Wednesday in a protective mask after suffering a facial injury in the first leg last week and after the game, he was pictured leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot and walking with crutches.

Mauricio Pochettino will be desperate for the Belgian international to make a full recovery in time to face Liverpool as his partnership alongside his compatriot Toby Alderweireld in central defence is crucial to Spurs’ chances. Read more
