States should be responsible for Fuel Subsidy – Govs (Leadership)

Governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) have suggested that each state should be responsible for the payment of subsidy claims according to the daily consumption rate of the state. Zamfara State governor and NGF chairman, Abdulaziz Yari , made this statement after a meeting of the forum on Wednesday night . He faulted the claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that Nigeria consumes 65 million litres per day. “Each and every state should be responsible for subsidy according to the consumption of that state,” he said, adding that he had briefed his colleagues about the meeting with the vice president earlier in the day. “On the issue of the cost recovery, otherwise called subsidy, the issue of subsidy resurfaced again after the efforts of Mr. President. Before now, the oil was $40 per barrel and now it is about $78 a barrel, therefore they are depending largely on importation. So, the cost is higher than what they are selling at the filling station and they need more money. Read more
