Guest beats up woman over son’s failure to greet (Nation)

A 43-year-old guest, Donnie Egbuzie, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly inflicting injuries on a woman, over her son’s refusal to greet him.

Egbuzie, a resident of Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried on a count charge of assault. The accused committed the offence on Dec.11, at Ipaja, according to the Prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji.

He said that the accused assaulted Mrs Jennifer Chibueze by beating her up and inflicting injuries on her. Read more

Four policemen arrested for alleged robbery (Guardian)

Four policemen attached to Ijanikin Division in Badagry, Lagos State have been arrested for allegedly robbing a Togo-based Nigerian of his CFA350, 000. Inspector Victor Amiete, Sergeants Samuel Gbemunu and Afolabi Oluwaseun as well as Corporal Adigun Omotayo are currently being detained at the Provost Section, Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

It was gathered that they robbed their victim, Theodore Ifunnaya, on December 17, around Iyana-Era, during a stop and search operation.

Ifunnaya, who was returning home from his base for the yuletide, was allegedly bundled into a patrol vehicle by the suspects and taken to their station as soon as they saw the money on him. It was gathered that the alleged rogue cops also tortured, stripped and photographed the victim before they seized his foreign currency. Read more

Security guard allegedly steals church appliances (Punch)

The police on Thursday arraigned a 32-year-old security guard, Taiwo Komolafe, in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing some appliances worth N780,000 from the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Chief Shepherd Parrish.

Komolafe, whose address was not provided, is charged with two counts of breaking-and-entering and theft.

The prosecutor, ASP Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 11, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Chief Shepherd Parish at No. 81, Iwaya road in Yaba area of Lagos. Read more

Teenager jailed for cell break (Nation)

The convict was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy, escape from lawful custody and willful damage to government property.

Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere sentenced him to one month imprisonment on counts one and two, with an option of N10,000 fine each.

On count three, Oghere sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment, with an option of N20,000 fine for the repair of the damage done at the police station. Read more

Dad incurs N500, 000 bail as 15-year-old suspected rapist son fails to appear in court (Punch)

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday admitted a 40-year-old man, Frederick Akinboboye, to bail in the sum of N500, 000 for failing to produce his 15-year-old son to face trial for alleged rape of a minor.

The Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence in November at Ojokoro Police Station, Lagos.

Ayorinde said the accused conspired with his 15-year-old son to obstruct and pervert the course of justice. Read more

Four in court for assaulting doctor, nurse (Nation)

Four men: Ismail Dauda, 53, Emmanuel John,25, Mohammed Abbas,28, and Osuntayo Adesina, 38, on Thursday appeared at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a medical doctor and a nurse.

The accused, who reside at Berger, Agege, Ogba in Lagos State and Ibafo in Ogun respectively, however, pleaded innocence to the three-count charge of breach of peace, assault and conspiracy levelled against them.

The prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, said that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 13 at the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre, Alausa in Ikeja. Read more

Driver docked over break in, stealing (Nation)

A 36-year-old driver, Victor Chinedu, who allegedly broke into a container and stole 33 bags of polypropylene worth N478, 500 was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Chinedu, who resides at the Alagbado Area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of break-in, conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that Chinedu committed the offences on Sept. 6, at 07:30a.m. at the Gbagada Oworoshoki Expressway, Barrack Bus-stop, Ilupeju, Lagos. Read more

Truck driver allegedly steals 700 empty crates of beer (Punch)

A 25-year-old truck driver working for the Nigeria Breweries PLC, Kelly Osang , who allegedly stole his employer’s 700 empty crates of different brands of beer valued at N1.4million, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Osang, who resides at No 4, Sango St., Iyana Iyesi, Sango Ota, Ogun, is charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that Osang committed the offence sometime in October at Abule Egba, Lagos. Read more

Man faces N850,000 visa fraud charge (Nation)

A 54-year-old man, James Bankole, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding his church member, Mrs. Uzoma Akubueze, of N850, 000.

Bankole, it was alleged, fraudulently collected the money from Mrs. Akubueze on the pretext of getting her an Australian visa.

Bankole, of 64, Coates Street, Ebute Meta, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and false pretences before Chief Magistrate Mrs. T.A. Ojo. Read more
