Residents and property owners at Pakuro, Ijere-Worugundu,  Ijere- Onigbedu,  Tolotolo, Kara-Nla, Kara- Kekere, Magbon and other surrounding communities in Obafemi-Owode Local Council of Ogun State have lamented years of neglect and abandonment, which had left the only access road to these communities in deplorable condition.

The road, which connects Magbon River, a renowned sand excavation site passing through 10 communities to Lotto and Deeper Life camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has over the years become a nightmare for residents.

Motorists, who include tipper drivers, are worried about long years of neglect for such an important road by the state, which benefits tremendously from activities on Magbon river and environs.

Apart from communal efforts, which are often not well supervised, there is no single presence of governance on the road, despite the large volume of vehicular movements, especially from tippers and heavy-duty vehicles, which ply the road to the excavation site at Magbon. Read more

Olivia Colman gets honest about motherhood with Lost Daughter (USAToday)

There are movies that make you feel seen. For Olivia Colman, that’s The Lost Daughter.

In the feverish Netflix drama (now in theaters, streaming Friday), the Oscar winner plays a divorced, middle-aged literature professor named Leda on a solo vacation in Greece. Lounging on the beach one day, she encounters an arresting but anxious young mother (Dakota Johnson), and soon starts reflecting on her own supposed shortcomings as a mom: how she snapped at her children during playtime or felt quiet relief when she traveled out of town for work.

“It’s interesting to find out that you’re not alone,” says Colman, 47, who has three kids with writer Ed Sinclair, her husband of 20 years. “My family, I would die for them. But when they were smaller and I was exhausted, I had those moments of, ‘Just leave me alone for a minute’ or ‘Put the telly on’ – which I disagreed with, but (to hell with) it sometimes. And you felt bad, because you were that mummy who was trying to sleep on the floor.”

“You’re like the 10th person to say to me, ‘I used to fall asleep when I was playing with my little kids,'” says Maggie Gyllenhaal, the film’s writer and director, sitting with Colman at a Midtown hotel in October. “I was like, ‘Me, too! They’re OK, they’re right next to you.’ Sometimes you’re just like, ‘I need to close my eyes for a minute.’’ Read more

Joburg mayor Mpho Phalatse hopes Tutu’s ‘rainbow nation’ dream will come true in 2024 (TimesLive)

Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse says the failure of political parties to secure an outright majority in the local government elections was a “gift” she hoped the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu had prayed for.

The city of gold was forced into a multiparty government two months ago, a move Phalatse believes brought closer the ideal of the “rainbow nation” envisaged by Tutu.

Phalatse made the remarks while leading a candlelight ceremony outside Tutu’s home in Orlando West, Soweto, on Wednesday. Tutu died on Sunday, aged 90.

We have been forced to stretch outside our comfort zones. We have been forced to speak to those we would have otherwise not spoken to and to seek consensus and to work together. Read more

Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has dismissed speculation in a section of the local media which had erroneously claimed that Leicester City winger Ademola Lookman was now eligible to represent the Super Eagles after completing the necessary paperwork.

Erstwhile Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr revealed last month that Lookman and another U20 World Cup winner with England in the shape of Reading’s Ovie Ejaria

had been named in Nigeria’s 40-man provisional squad list for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Lookman has caught the eye in his last five matches in the Premier League, finding the back of the net against Watford, Manchester City and most recently against Liverpool.

Based on his form for the Foxes, many Super Eagles fans expected the RB Leipzig-owned player to be named on the finalized roster for the AFCON but Pinnick has clarified that he wasn’t considered by interim coach Augustine Eguavoen because a change of association request from England to Nigeria has not yet been approved by FIFA.
