The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Obi, has charged the students of Rev. Fr. Ekwu Memorial Secondary School, Owerre Ezukala, Anambra State, to face their studies seriously, telling them that what they will become in future is directly proportional to their efforts today. Obi was speaking on Thursday during his visit to the school.
Obi, who recalled that he visited the school three years ago when the school was just starting, said the recent visit was in fulfilment of his promise to them that he would visit again to evaluate their progress and encourage them not to relent.
Obi took the opportunity to remind wealthy Nigerians that the society and humanity gains much from support to worthy causes that will enrich her such as support to education than spending billions of naira on activities such as burials and naming ceremonies, which, he noted some Nigerians take as status symbols.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a cheque of N1 million to the school for continued infrastructure improvement.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Senior Prefect, Miss Ajegbo Nkiruka Prisca, thanked Mr Obi and described him as the greatest inspirator to school children. “Your Excellency,” she said, “you may not understand the positive effects your visits to schools have on the psyche of students.”
Obi, who was received by the Manager of the school, Rev. Fr. Felix Anajekwu, and the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joachim Ezeani, was accompanied by Prof. Stella Chinyere Okunna.
