Suspect in custody over Instagram cloth vendor’s death (Punch)

The prime suspect in the case of an Ibadan-based Instagram cloth vendor, Adeshina Olayinka, popularly called Khadi, who died mysteriously at Wetland Hotel, Akobo, in Ibadan, Oyo State recently is currently in police custody.

PUNCH Metro had reported that Olayinka was found dead after the man she was with checked out early on Thursday morning.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspect is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

An investigation by our correspondent further revealed that the suspect, names withheld, voluntarily presented himself to the police at Akobo Police Division having heard that his attention was needed by the police over Olayinka’s death. Read more

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and former Chairman, Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Nimi Briggs, is dead.

The news of his death was contained in a statement by one of his children, Ninah Nimi Briggs, on behalf of the family. 

According to the statement, yesterday, the former VC, died in the early hours of Easter Monday at the age of 79. Read more

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said the President’s sickness in 2017 took eight months from his time in office.

Adesina disclosed this on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Adesina who was highlighting the accomplishments and legacy of the Buhari government during the programme, said the President spent eight months on treatment in the United Kingdom in 2017.

UK restriction can’t stop doctors’ migration, say NMA, NARD (Punch)

Medical bodies in the countries have said the United Kingdom government’s code of practice for the international recruitment of health and social care personnel will not stop Nigerian doctors from migrating to other countries.

According to them, the UK can only define its terms as freedom of movement is a fundamental right.

The Nigerian Medical Association and the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors were reacting to the UK code of practice, which listed Nigeria among 54 other countries where health workers should not be actively recruited. Read more

The Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) has kicked against the compulsory five-year service licensing of a doctor proposed by the House of Representatives.

The association, however, said that a national emergency should be declared in the health sector as against the proposed compulsory five-year service.

Police arrest 3 officers for assaulting man in Rivers (Nation)

The Police have arrested three officers seen in a viral video assaulting an unidentified man in Rivers state.

The Nation learnt the incident took place at Port Harcourt East West Road, Emouha Junction.

Rivers Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, earlier ordered the arrest of the policemen.

The Dalai Lama has apologised after he faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour after kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to “suck his tongue” at a public event in India.
