20 suspected miscreants nabbed in Lagos (Punch)

Officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps also known as KAI, on Tuesday, arrested 20 suspected miscreants terrorising the Oshodi area of the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a terse message shared on his X.com page on Tuesday.

According to him, the suspected miscreants were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday during a patrol. Read more

Man jailed 10 years for child molestation (Punch)

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a man, Stanley Mbadiwe, to 10 years imprisonment for sexual assault and indecent treatment of a nine-year-old girl.

Justice Rahmon Oshodi convicted him after he pleaded guilty to the two amended charges brought against him by the Lagos State Government.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Mbadiwe was initially arraigned on July 28, 2021, and was initially charged with defilement through the one-count information filed on March 6, 2019, after which he pleaded not guilty. Read more

Two female suspects get N200m bail for N140m fraud case (Punch)

Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, on Tuesday, granted two female suspects, Blessing Chima and Chikamson Williams, arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos a bail of N200m for alleged N140m theft.

Chima and Williams, who are both 47 years old, were arraigned in the court via number FHC/L/709c/2024, filed against them by the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi.

They are facing three counts bordering on obtaining by false pretence, stealing, and receiving. Read more

Chidinma: Lagos court to hear no-case submission Dec 5 (Punch)

The hearing of a no-case submission in the ongoing trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, charged with the alleged murder of the Super TV Chief Executive Officer, Michael Usifo Ataga, was on Tuesday stalled due to the absence of the third defendant’s counsel.

Chidinma, a 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, is standing trial before the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

Man flees after stabbing cousin to death in Lagos (Punch)

An argument between two relatives turned tragic in Lagos on Monday as one of them fatally stabbed his cousin during a physical confrontation.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro in a terse statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, noting that the suspect was at large.

The police said a woman reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, were having a misunderstanding that resulted in a physical confrontation. Read more

NDLEA nabs Thailand returnee with N3b drugs, seizes N22b opioids (Punch)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have arrested a Thailand returnee, Simon Peter Oguejiofor, for importing 13.30 kilograms of heroin worth over N3.192bn.

Oguejiofor was arrested on October 7, 2024, while attempting to smuggle out of the airport the drug concealed in six backpacks and then packed into two big suitcases.

According to a statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the suspect left Thailand on October 3 on a Qatar Airways flight and stopped over in Doha, where he spent two days before heading to Lagos while his luggage was routed to Accra, Ghana, his original destination. Police detain manager after woman dies in Lagos hotel (Punch)

Police in Lagos have detained a hotel manager in the Dopemu area following the death of a woman who allegedly visited the facility with an unidentified man.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.

A suspected car thief, Joseph Ada, arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, has disclosed that he intends to use the proceeds from selling his former boss’ car to fund his father’s burial.

This was disclosed in a statement made available on the RRS Facebook page on Friday.

According to the statement, Ada had duplicated the key of the vehicle while working as a driver to his former boss before he was sacked in June. Read more

Lagos task force probes Customs officer extortion after PUNCH report (Punch)

The Lagos State Task Force has said it is investigating the alleged extortion of a Nigeria Customs Service officer by its officers.

PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday that the Customs officer, who identified himself simply as Cyril, accused the task force officials of extorting him N200,000 at their head office in the Bolade area of Lagos State.

He said this was after they caused damage to his car while they accosted him at Liverpool in the Apapa area of the state. Read more

Policeman caught extorting Lagos motorists despite outcry (Punch)

A cop attached to the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command was on Thursday caught on camera extorting motorists plying the Berger-Arepo-Mowe stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway despite outcry by some drivers about the daily extortion.

PUNCH Metro had reported on September 19 that drivers in the Iyana-Ipaja, Ikotun, and Berger areas of the state had raised concerns over a new tactic deployed by the police to extort money from them.

Lagos taskforce vows justice for cop killed by soldier (Punch)

The Lagos State Task Force has disclosed that it will not relent in getting justice for one of its officers, Saka Ganiyu, who was allegedly killed by a power-drunk soldier in the Ojo area of the state.

The task force spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Speeding driver kills cart-pusher in Lagos (Punch)

A cart-pusher lost his life on Thursday when a speeding driver lost control and rammed into him along the Dopemu area of Lagos State.

This is according to a statement by the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, on Thursday.

While narrating how the accident occurred, Taofiq noted that the driver of a commercial LT bus with number plate EPR 474 YJ was at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a stationary construction crane and the cart-pusher. Read more
