A graduate of Physics from the Kogi State University, Tomi Waziri, 27, has lost his eyesight to an armed robbery attack while in traffic in the Apongbon area of Lagos.

Waziri, who was waiting for his call up letter from the National Youth Service Corps for the mandatory one-year service, was said to have approached his sister’s husband to engage him as a Taxify ride hailing service driver until he would be mobilised for the scheme.

It was learnt that on September 12, two armed robbers attacked him while in traffic and shot him in the face. Read more

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged different associations in construction industry across Nigeria to commence self-cleansing in order to compete favourably with their counterparts around the globe.

He disclosed that the role of engineers in construction cannot be overemphasised in human daily life as virtually all other sectors rely on the construction industry to provide and maintain their accommodation, plants and infrastructure. Speaking at the 41 Annual Conference /AGM 2019 of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Customer stabs sex worker to death in Lagos (Punch)

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Babatunde Damilare for allegedly stabbing a commercial sex worker, one Elochukwu, to death in the Surulere area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that Damilare and Elochukwu had engaged in a fight over the amount to be paid for her service when the suspect used a knife to stab her in the neck.

He stated that Elochukwu died on the spot, adding that homicide detectives had arrested Damilare and would charge him. Read more

Court orders Netherlands to repatriate Dutch children from Syria (Vanguard)

The Netherlands must endeavor to repatriate 56 Dutch children born to 23 Dutch women who had joined the ISIS (Islamic State) in Syria, a court ruled here on Monday.

The children live in detention camps in northeastern Syria.The court said that children are not responsible for the behavior of their parents, no matter how serious the acts or crimes committed by their mothers are.

Coca-Cola was once again named the world’s largest plastic polluter.

For the second year in a row, the nonprofit Break Free From Plastic tagged the Atlanta-based Coke as the biggest producer of plastic waste.

The environmental group had 72,541 volunteers in 51 countries collect plastic waste in September, and 43 percent of what they found were clearly marked consumer brands, the Guardian reported.
