19-year-old boy defiles his sisters aged 6, 8 (Vanguard)

An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, Tuesday, remanded a 19-year-old man, Andrew Chinedu, in prison over alleged defilement of two sisters, aged eight and six years.

The magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, said that Chinedu was to spend the next 65 days in prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

Kubeinje, who gave the ruling, also refused to take the plea of the accused. Read more

Police arraign bus driver for raping 78-year-old woman (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned a commercial bus driver, Jelili Lawal, for allegedly raping a septuagenarian.

Punch Metro had reported that the 78-year-old woman, who was returning to her place of residence in the Ketu area of Lagos, had missed her way when Lawal offered her a lift to her destination.

The woman, who was delighted at Lawal’s offer, never suspected that he had other intentions but he drove to another location, where he allegedly raped the victim. Read more

Tenant, 31, beats 63-yr-old landlord in Lagos (Vanguard)

A 31-year-old tenant, Abass Babatunde, was Tuesday arraigned in Lagos for beating up his 63-year-old landlord.

Babatunde, who resides at No. 8 Omo Osagie St., Iju Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of assault and malicious damage before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ court.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the accused allegedly assaulted his landlord, Mr. Rahmon Adewale, by punching him on the face, following an unresolved argument. Read more

Driver allegedly beats co-tenant to pulp as wives quarrel (Punch)

The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 39-year-old driver, Kabiru Amuda, who allegedly beat up his co-tenant during a quarrel by their wives.

Amuda, who resides at No. 19, Adeyemi St., Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos, was charged with assault before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the one charge. Read more

Mother, 2wks-old baby detained over unpaid N60,000 delivery bill (Vanguard)

A nursing mother, Mrs Ochuko Chucks and her two- week- old baby are presently being detained at Graceville Medical Centre, on Godmon street, Okota, over inability to pay N60,000 balance of the delivery bill.

Vanguard gathered that the stranded woman had registered with one of Christian outreaches birth centres in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, where she had her previous deliveries.

After taking in again, she was, however, rushed to Graveville on December 26, 2018, where doctors hurriedly carried out a Caesarean section, CS, on her, after experiencing contractions for days without sign of the baby coming out. Read more

Two friends swindle trader of N8.5m (Punch)

For allegedly parading themselves as suppliers of iron scrap barges and swindling a trader, Martins Anagor, of N8.5m, two friends have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The duo of Emmanuel Odunze and Clement Anyanwu were arraigned on three counts of obtaining under false pretences and stealing.

It was gathered that the two friends approached Anagor on the pretext that they could supply him iron scrap worth N18m. Read more

Police arraign 4 men over illegal drug factory in Lagos (Vanguard)

Four men were Tuesday, arraigned by the Police in an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly operating an illegal drug factory and manufacturing fake drugs.

The accused namely Emeka Madu, 47; Eze Young, 26; Chijoke Umunna, 19; and Kingsley Obilor, 22, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful manufacturing of drugs and operation of illegal drug factory.

The Police prosecutor, Peter Nwangwu told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on December 13, 2018 at 2, Okunneye Street, Ikotun-Egbe, a Lagos suburb. Read more
