Police arraign tenant for renovating house without landlord’s consent (Punch)
A businesswoman, Adebukola Oladipo, has been arrested by the police for allegedly damaging a building belonging to her landlord, Ediac Ezemuede.
Punch Metro gathered that Oladipo rented a guesthouse consisting of five rooms, an open space and two stores from the landlord in 2016.
Ezemuede, in his statement to the police, said Oladipo damaged the building for reasons best known to her, adding that she used the police against him when he demanded an explanation from her. Read more
Brothers arraigned for ‘forgery, land grabbing’ (Nation)
Alhaji Abdulfatai Abereoje, 51, and his younger brother, Jamiu Abereoje, 45, were arraigned on a five-count charge of conspiracy, felony, forgery, unlawful invasion and conduct likely to cause breach of the public peace.
The Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID), Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, alleged that the defendants and others at large conspired and forged registered survey documents of Oko-Ado community. Read more
Chinese firm allegedly sacks workers over refusal to practise Buddhism (Punch)
Employees of a Chinese firm, Yiwu Baolian Import and Export Company Limited, have accused the chief executive officer, Fanni Lijuan, of sacking some of their colleagues who refused to practise Buddhism.
The employees told Punch Metro that Lijuan, who introduced Buddhism at the company’s office on Irede Road, Abule Osun, in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, allegedly compelled them to bow to worship her Buddha, adding that those who refused were being sacked.
One of the employees, who identified himself simply as Olaniyi, alleged that the ‘strange’ instruction of the CEO was meant to convert them to Buddhism, adding that two staff members who refused to comply had already been sacked. Read more
EFCC arraigns ex-police paymaster, others for N1.3bn fraud (Punch)
A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ifeoma Okpalugo, has been brought before a Lagos State Special Offences Court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged N1.3bn fraud.
Okpalugo is standing trial alongside three others – Olumide Odumosu, Suleiman Tegina and Helen Nwafor, and two companies – Yus Investment Nigeria Limited and Olivia Osmond Nigeria Limited
PUNCH Metro learnt that the retired ACP and the co-defendants had between 2013 and 2014 allegedly diverted the sum of N1,301,334,108.00 belonging to the Nigeria Police Force to their personal use. Read more
Self-styled company director bolts with bank’s N6.6m (Punch)
A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Wednesday granted reprieve to 43-year-old, Odutayo Odufote, charged with N6.66 million theft.
The accused, who is being tried on charges of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences, was released on a two million Naira bail.
The accused had denied committing the offence. Read more
