3 men arraigned for allegedly stealing 10 AirPods, 15 iPhones (Punch)

Three men were on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 10 earbuds, 10 Bluetooth speakers and 15 iPhone 12 ProMax.

The police charged Oluwafemi Adeniji, 22; Olatunji Adeoshun, 27; and Peter Oladipupo, 24, with conspiracy, theft and falsification.

However, they pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Victor Eruada, told the court that the defendants and other persons at large committed the offence on September 11, 2021, at 1:50 pm at the Computer Village, Ikeja. Read more

3 killed as cultists hold Lagos communities hostage for one month (Punch)  

Three persons have been reportedly killed in the ongoing supremacy clashes involving members of the Eiye and Aiye cults in Owode and Ibeshe communities, in the Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Among the victims was a betting agent, identified only as Segun, who was hit by a stray bullet.

Our correspondent learnt that the other two victims were suspected cultists, one of whom was shot dead around the F1 bar in the Ebute area of Ikorodu West LCDA last Sunday.

Man charged for damaging customer’s N4.2m car (DailyTrust)

A 55-year-old man, Isaac Adeyemi, was Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly damaging his customer’s car worth N4.2 million.

The defendant, a car painter, who resides at Eshadeu Bus Stop, Iyana Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State, was arraigned for damage and causing breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed on March 2 at Ladoje Mechanic Village, Oko Oba, Agege.

Ogu said that the complainant, Mr Akinola Akinwumi, gave his Toyota Sienna space bus valued N4.2 million to the defendant for painting.

He said the defendant took the car out of the workshop for his own personal use without telling the complainant. Read more

Court remands unemployed man for illegal possession of gun (Vanguard) 

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 23- year-old unemployed  man, Habeeb Musa, who allegedly illegally possessed a locally-made gun.

The defendant, who resides in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is facing charges of conspiracy, membership of secret society and illegal possession of  gun.

The court could not take the defendant’s plea as the Chief Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, said she needed advice from the state director of public prosecutions.

She ordered that Musa should be kept at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, and adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for mention. Read more

Man arrested for defiling 9-year-old girl in Lagos (Punch)

Men of the Lagos Police Command have arrested one Ayo Adenupebi, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Akodo area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said in a statement on Wednesday that Adenupebi was arrested after the victim’s sister made a report about the incident at the Akodo Police Station.

He stated that detectives detailed to investigate the case arrested the suspect, adding that the victim had been taken to hospital for treatment.

Ajisebutu said, “Detectives at the Akodo Police Division, Lagos State, have arrested one Ayo Adenupebi, 20, resident of Ise town, Akodo, for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old minor who lives on the same street with him. Read more

NDLEA charges 20-year-old with drug trafficking (DailyTrust)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday charged one 20-year-old Oluwafemi Abbas with drug trafficking.

Abbas is charged on one count before a Federal High Court in Lagos State.

NDLEA counsel, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that Abbas committed the offence on Sept. 11.

Aernan said that the defendant was arrested at Old Garage in Ikotun, Lagos State, for unlawfully trading in hemp weighing 400g, in contravention of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004.

The law provides for a maximum of life imprisonment for convicted drug traffickers. Read more

Driver arraigned for allegedly stealing N6m beer (Punch)

A driver with Guinness Nigeria Limited, Sodiq Ganiyu, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 20 pallets of beer worth N6m.

The police charged 34-year-old Ganiyu with conspiracy, theft, and breach of peace to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Rachael Williams, told the court that Ganiyu, a resident of 28, Agbowo Street, Isokan, Ogun State, committed the offences on September 12, 2021 at 1, Akanni Dorathy Street, Ikeja, Lagos.

I was under the influence of alcohol when I slept with my neighbour’s daughter – Suspect (DailyTrust)

A 30-year-old man, Sunday Ukeme, arrested for defiling his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter, has confessed he acted under the influence of alcohol.

The suspect was arrested on October 4, 2021, by detectives of Akodo Police Station, Lagos.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect was accused of sleeping with his neighbour’s daughter.

Ajisebutu said the incident happened in Idaso town, Ibeju Lekki, around 10.23pm on September 20, 2021, after the suspect’s wife left for vigil in one of the churches in the neighbourhood.

He said the victim’s mother had kept her daughter in the custody of the suspect’s wife, one Mary Sunday, when she (victim’s mother) travelled out of the town for three weeks. Read more

Cultists clash in Lagos community, rob residents, loot property (Punch)

A supremacy clash between rival cults on Sunday created tension on Mumuni Adio Badmos Road, Ijegun Egba, in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the cultists engaged one another in a free-for-all using different weapons, including guns.

During the clash, residents and business owners reportedly scampered for safety, as the hoodlums took advantage of the unrest to dispossess people of their valuables.

A source said one person, who was injured, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, adding that the gang members fled after the police arrived in the area. Read more

Night markets, roadside traders worry residents, motorists (Guardian)

There are growing concerns over spread of night markets and roadside traders in parts of Lagos metropolis. The scale of commercial activities in the nation’s commercial centre is such that all manner of business outlets spring up in every nook and cranny.

In most cases, trading activities commence from 7:00p.m. ending at midnight, depending on  locations and the goods involved.

 At Mushin, Iyana-Ipaja, Cele-Expressway, Ikotun, and Agbado-Ijaye, commuters and motorists experience tough times in the night as traders take over the roads.

When business is in full bloom, traders will be seen and heard shouting on top of their voices or ringing bells to attract attention to their wares. Not even the blaring horns by motorists is enough to keep them off the roads. Read more
