This is a snapshot of the security situation across Nigeria from April 29 – May 4, 2019 in collaboration with our security partners, PR24 Risk Management Consulting.
The focus is on communal clashes, crisis in the north, abductions, violent crimes, robbery, kidnapping, insurgency, militancy, disasters, rising threat levels, national security, rising rape of minor cases, increased reports of kidnap for ritual, etc.
Southwest
There were also noteworthy incidents of abductions, disaster and civil unrest in the week under review. States most affected include Lagos, Osun, Ondo, Ogun and Oyo.
Residents and community leaders of Agidingbi in Ikeja on Thursday led a protest to the Lagos State House of Assembly over a judgement of the Supreme Court, which awarded ownership of 398 acres of land in the community to a traditional landowning family, Akinole-Oshiun. The protesters alleged that they had been given a seven-day ultimatum to vacate their homes by the judgement creditors and urged that speedy action be taken to avoid bloodshed.

South-South/East

States in this region faced a number of security threats, foremost among which were violent crimes, Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs), abductions, robbery, disasters and civil unrest.
The Police in Rivers State say they have secured the unconditional release of four abducted staffers of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). DSP Nnamdi Omoni, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command in the state, made this known in a statement on Wednesday. He further affirmed that the victims had been debriefed and released to their families.

Northcentral
The Jukun militia have allegedly killed at least 200 people and destroyed property worth millions during attacks on villages in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State according to a claim by its local government chairman, Mr Ibellogo Tor-Ityokaa, who disclosed this on Thursday while addressing a news conference in Zaki-Biam.
He stated that among the worst hit villages were Tse-Ayali, Igbongom and Tse-Atsenga, Vaase, Namtaav and New City. He accused his Wukari Local Government counterpart of aiding and abetting the armed Jukun militia to launch mayhem on Tiv settlements.

Northwest

No fewer than 17 persons were killed in an attack launched by armed bandits in two villages – Gobirawa and Sabawa in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. This is according to a statement by the lawmaker representing Safana Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Abduljalal Haruna Runka – who whileconfirming the incidence put the number of persons killed at 17.

The biggest threat to security in the region remains insurgency, with attacks by members of
Boko Haram on lives and property within the region. Boko Haram insurgents on Friday evening dislodged troops of the Nigerian Army in Magumeri, a local government headquarters in Borno State, North-East Nigeria. The insurgents took over the military base in Magumeri after the
troops were displaced.
