President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). This announcement, made in a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, highlights the administration’s commitment to leveraging seasoned expertise to drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
Mr. Gbeleyi, a distinguished financial expert and celebrated chartered accountant, brings to the position over three decades of post-qualification experience. His illustrious career spans various sectors including manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), investment and commercial banking, project finance, telecommunications, infrastructure and public administration.
An alumnus of executive programmes at the prestigious London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Lagos Business School, Mr. Gbeleyi is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). His previous roles include serving as the board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and as Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015.
Tinubu expressed confidence that Gbeleyi’s extensive experience and proficiency will be instrumental in strengthening the BPE. The president anticipates that under Gbeleyi’s leadership, the BPE will further its mission as a national resource centre dedicated to capacity building, sustaining reforms, promoting a competitive private sector-driven economy, and ensuring social accountability. Moreover, the new Director-General is expected to advance effective corporate governance and fiduciary discipline within both the public and private sectors.
