Tinubu appoints new leadership for EFCC

President Bola Tinubu has exercised his authority as stipulated in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Act of 2004 by appointing Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman and Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC.

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, a seasoned lawyer with more than two decades of experience in regulatory compliance and fraud management, has been appointed as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC. His vast knowledge and previous roles within the EFCC, including Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Commission, make him a strong fit for the position.

This appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, and is expected to bring fresh vigour to the anti-corruption agency. Mr. Olukoyede’s appointment is for an initial renewable term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation.

In another significant move, President Tinubu has appointed Mr. Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC. Mr. Hammajoda, a public administrator with a background in public finance management, brings his expertise to the role. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration. His experience includes stints in academia and the banking sector.

Mr. Hammajoda’s appointment is for an initial renewable term of five years, pending Senate confirmation. The appointments reflect the President’s commitment to revitalizing the anti-corruption sector and align with his Renewed Hope agenda.

The new EFCC leadership has been tasked with the crucial responsibility of intensifying efforts against corruption in Nigeria. As the nation embarks on a renewed fight against financial misconduct, these appointments are poised to play a pivotal role in this endeavor.

Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President for Media and Publicity, announced these appointments, marking a significant development in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against corruption. This move reaffirms President Tinubu’s dedication to a more transparent and accountable government.
