Christopher told Total Film magazine: “I think recreating the Trinity test (the first nuclear weapon detonation, in New Mexico) without the use of computer graphics was a huge challenge to take on.

“Andrew Jackson – my visual effects supervisor, I got him on board early on – was looking at how we could do a lot of the visual elements of the film practically, from representing quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to recreating, with my team, Los Alamos up on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, a lot of which was needed for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions out there – there were huge practical challenges.” Read more

Firm left with 18k England ”World Cup winners” T-shirts after gamble backfires (Sky)

A businessman has been left with 18,000 useless T-shirts which wrongly herald England as World Cup champions.

Football fan Karl Baxter was so convinced the Three Lions were going to return home from Qatar as winners that he had the tops printed ahead of the quarter-finals.

Sprawled across the back of the shirts are the slogans ”England, Cup Winners 2022, It’s Finally Home” and ”The Day It Came Home”.

But the gamble didn’t pay off, with Gareth Southgate’s side losing 2-1 to France in their quarter-final match on Saturday after Harry Kane missed the chance to score an equalising penalty.

Tchouameni emerges as new leader of France midfield at World Cup (Guardian)

Aurelien Tchouameni might do most of his work in the shadows, but the France midfielder lit up the World Cup with his brilliant opening goal in Saturday’s quarter-final win over England.

The 22-year-old later gave away the first penalty of the game at Al Bayt Stadium which Harry Kane scored to equalise for England, yet France eventually ran out 2-1 winners and Tchouameni’s role for the holders has been vital given the problems they faced coming into the tournament.

The outlook for coach Didier Deschamps and his side appeared grim when they were struck by an avalanche of injuries, not least with their starting midfield duo of Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante both being ruled out.

Deschamps had to completely reconfigure his team, including abandoning his experiment with a back three, but his decision to build a three-man midfield around Tchouameni with Adrien Rabiot and Antoine Griezmann either side of the Real Madrid man has paid off.

Now when his teammates push forward to join the attack, “he is there to cover us, fill in, plug gaps and win the ball back,” said Rabiot, who has also impressed on France’s run to the semi-finals in Qatar, where they will face Morocco on Wednesday. Read more

Tyson Fury makes new Anthony Joshua fight ”guarantee” and Oleksandr Usyk money claim (Express)

Tyson Fury has guaranteed boxing fans that they will never see him fight Anthony Joshua. The Gypsy King says that he is fed up with trying to make the fight and has lost all interest after their December 3 date fell through.

Despite being one of the most sought-after fights in boxing, Fury believes that his proposed undisputed unification contest with Oleksandr Usyk is much bigger and claims he will earn double the money fighting the Ukrainian than he will against AJ.

“I don’t think it will happen,” Fury told iFL TV. “If it was going to happen it would have happened in December when Chisora manned up and stepped up to the plate. I can guarantee you will not see it, one hundred percent not happening, like you didn’t see Calzaghe and Froch. But I’m going to take on the man that has beaten him twice so it’s irrelevant. I’m going to knock out the guy that beat him twice.”

When asked whether the AJ fight is the biggest fight in boxing, Fury responded: “Nowhere near, it’s the biggest fight in this country. Not in boxing. Read more
