President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive mandating the recitation of the National Pledge following the National Anthem at all official and public engagements. This move aims to foster a deeper sense of patriotism, allegiance and reverence for national symbols, according to a State House statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity).
The announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Renewed Hope City project in Abuja at which the president emphasised the importance of upholding national values and promoting unity among Nigerians.
“In reaffirming our commitment to the ideals and aspirations of our great nation, we must ensure that the National Pledge becomes an integral part of our collective consciousness,” stated President Tinubu.
The National Pledge, which pledges allegiance to Nigeria and promises to uphold its unity and glory, will now be recited alongside the National Anthem at official gatherings. This initiative is seen as a proactive step towards instilling a sense of national pride and identity among citizens.
President Tinubu further underscored the significance of unity and hope in steering Nigeria towards prosperity, urging citizens to remain steadfast in their dedication to the country’s progress.
