Despite calls by President Bola Tinubu to suspend further protests in the country, the organisers of the #EndBadgovernance protest in Lagos and Osun states, yesterday, resumed peaceful demonstration.
While the Lagos protesters converged on the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota area, those in Osun State resumed at the convergence point at Freedom Park in Osogbo.
They, however, lampooned the President over his broadcast saying “The President cannot offer an olive branch while at the same time holding a dagger to our throat.” Read more
Lagos Chief’s Murder: DPP indicts police inspector (Punch)
The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions has indicted Inspector Dikko Usman of the Nigeria Police Force and others in the murder of Chief Fatai Jubril, the Baale of Lotu community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state.
PUNCH Metro also learnt on Monday that the officer had been dismissed from the force and charged in court.
The indictment of the inspector was detailed in the DPP’s advisory addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, and sighted by our correspondent on Saturday. Read more
Police arrest 39 suspects for displaying Russian, Chinese flags in Kaduna (Channels)
The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested 39 suspects in connection with inciting violence, displaying Russian and Chinese flags as well as vandalising public and private property in various parts of the state capital.
The suspects included the tailor who produced the Russian and Chinese flags for the protesters.
According to the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, the suspects exploited the #EndBadGovernance protest and unleashed violence against innocent residents. Read more
FG issues travel alert for Nigerians planning to visit UK (Sun)
A travel alert was released by the federal government on Monday, advising its citizens planning to travel to the United Kingdom.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson to the Minister of Interior, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, the government pointed out the risk of increased violence over the recent riots in the UK.
“There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK,” it said. Read more

This came against the backdrop of a trending video of some protesters openly inviting the military to takeover government.
Emerging from the meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, who spoke for the council, said that they military will go after protesters bearing foreign flags which he said impinges on the sovereignty of the country. At least five US personnel have been injured in a rocket attack at a military base in Iraq, US defence officials say, in what has been a recent uptick in strikes on American forces by Iranian-backed militias.
Two Katyusha rockets were fired at al-Asad air base in western Iraq, two Iraqi security sources said.
