‘Respect the naira or else…’

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has appealed to Nigerians to stop defacing the naira, describing it as a national identity and symbol, which must be kept neat. Isaac Okorafor, the CBN Director of Corporate Communications, made the appeal at a programme tagged “CBN Fair’’ on Thursday in Osogbo. Okorafor said the way and manner people abuse the naira has become a source of concern to the apex bank.

“Don’t spray it, write on it but rather respect it. Abusing the naira is a criminal offence which attracts penalty. Just the way we respect our national flag, we should respect the naira as well.

“It is sad the way and manner people are abusing the naira by way of writing on it, spraying it at parties or squeezing it.” He appealed to Nigerians to always handle the naira with care and keep it safe and neat.

Haba CBN, if we no squeeze our money, how you think say policemen go dey comfortable to collect bribe for checkpoint?

Who send Buhari enter this hot seat?

President Muhammadu Buhari admitted on Thursday night that he had been under unprecedented pressure to release the names of his ministerial-nominees.

The President, who made a brief remark during a dinner he had with the leadership of the National Assembly, however, maintained that he would not be stampeded into releasing the list. “I’m very much aware about it; I’m under tremendous pressure on it. But the last cabinet which I headed, most of them, the majority of them I didn’t know them. I had to accept the names and recommendations from the party and other individuals.

“I worked with them for three and half years at least – meeting twice or two weeks in a month. So, I know them. But, this time round… I will pick people I personally know.”

Mtcheew. The ones wey you give us last term wetin we gain from them? If you like release list, if you no like use am chop tuwon shinkafa.

MURIC mumu don start

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has written a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari calling on him to ensure that the federal government stops the airing of the 2019 edition of the reality television show, Big Brother Naija.

MURIC, which expressed disgust at the show, said the airing of the 2019 edition of the Big Brother Naija Reality Show should be shutdown immediately. In a statement issued by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Muslim group labelled the reality show as ‘immoral, dangerous and bohemian’ and also wondered why the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency are doing nothing over the show.

The statement reads in part, “This reality show is dragging our children into a life of moral debauchery. It is robbing them of the last vestiges of honour. It is deleting the word ‘shame’ from their vocabulary. BB Naija has alienated our youth from the elders. A yawning lacuna now exists between the young and the old. Irreversible social crisis looms.”

Mtcheew. Oh please. These noisemakers should take several seats. Falz still dey court dey wait for una to show up.

A Ghanaian lawmaker, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has said that he would be going into the music industry in order to make ends meet. Apaak, who represents Builsa South in the Upper East Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress said this on a radio show.

According to him, the economic situation in Ghana was harsh and has motivated him to venture into the business of music. He said he believed that music would enable him to make money to survive the harsh economic condition which he said was caused by the alleged economic mismanagement of the New Patriotic Party government.

“I will soon come out with a single. You have to look for alternative means of surviving. It is about survival so you have to do everything possible to survive as long as it is lawful and legal,” he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okay FM.

“We want to go around the whole of Buenaventura, from the air and pour holy water onto it to see if we exorcise all those demons that are destroying our port,” he told a Colombian radio station.

Buenaventura is Colombia’s biggest seaport for the Pacific Ocean and is notorious for drug trafficking and gang warfare.

Abeg Lagos needs this kind of exorcism. And it should last a year. The demons wey dey here need strong hand.
