Kalo kalo: Sowore tries his luck again

Sahara Reporters founder and 2019 presidential candidate on the platform of African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore has filed a fresh bail application to the Federal High Court, Abuja, asking to be released from detention.

Sowore was arrested at about 11 pm on Saturday, August 2 by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) for calling a protest. The DSS accused him of terrorism and plotting to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. He, however, denied the allegations.

Sowore’s lawyer Femi Falana first applied for his bail Wednesday, August 28 but was refused by Justice Nkeonye Maya. His latest application, filed by Falana insists that he is entitled to bail since he has cooperated with the DSS and the government agency has “concluded investigation of this case and announced its findings.”

FG mean sha. They’re really determined to do Sowore strong thing. I’m not sure even Falana can deliver him from this lions’ den.

Seun Onigbinde leaves the church before the singing begins

Co-founder of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde, on Monday, announced his resignation as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba. He made this announcement on his Medium page, a link of which he shared on his official Twitter handle.

Onigbinde said, “Upon further reflections on the furore that has been generated by my new role as the Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, I humbly resign the appointment.” He thanked the Honourable Minister, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, for believing in his expertise and the privilege to serve.

“I also want to wish the Nigerian government, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, well. I will always be of help to the federal government in my capacity as the Director of BudgIT, a critical fiscal transparency group, as I have been to several agencies. I would also work to ensure that BudgIT continues to build civic awareness on the right of every Nigerian to know how public resources are managed.”

A battle looms in Abia…

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged there is a plot to attack the Afaraukwu home of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Abia State. It claimed the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, was spearheading the plot. A statement by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Sunday called on the international community to prevail on Ikpeazu against the plot.

The statement reads, “Another round of genocide looms at the front of our leader’s compound in Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State by Fulani terror group. IPOB’s intelligence unit is gathering information how Okezie Ikpeazu and co stationed killer squad in front of our leader’s compound in Isiama Afaraukwu, the ancestral home of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, tonight.

“The assassins in a white Toyota Hilux loitering in front of our leader’s house in Isiama-Afaraukwu tonight should better retrace their steps. We are calling on the international community and civilised citizens across the world to be aware and prevail upon Okezie Ikpeazu and his collaborators to withdraw their killer squad in front of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s compound. If anybody is killed in Afaraukwu, Okezie Ikpeazu and co will be held accountable.”

Hmmm. This one na serious allegation o. I’d have suggested for Kanu to return home but I know Buhari is waiting to ‘Ekweremadurise’ him.

The Swallow: when a  dream becomes reality

A US woman has undergone surgery after removing and swallowing her engagement ring in her sleep. Jenna Evans, 29, said she and her fiancée Bobby had been on a speeding train and she was forced to swallow the ring to protect it from “bad guys”.

She woke at her home in California to realise the episode had been a dream, but saw her diamond ring was missing. She said she knew exactly what had happened, woke up Bobby to explain, and the couple went to a hospital. An X-ray scan identified the 2.4-carat ring in her stomach, and doctors agreed it would be unwise “to let nature take its course”.

Ms Evans, a San Diego resident, later had a procedure to remove the ring but said she was asked to sign release forms in case of her death. “Then I cried a lot because I would be so mad if I died,” she said. “I waited a long time for that damn engagement ring and I will marry Bobby Howell.” The procedure was a success, and Ms Evans said she woke up “hysterically crying”.

Phew. Thank God for days we didn’t chew AND swallow our pillow foams. Yes, we!

The unfunny monkey joke resurfaces

An Italian television station says it will not use one of its pundits again after he made a racist comment about Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking on TopCalcio24, Luciano Passirani said: “If you go one-on-one with him he will murder you. The only way to come up against him is maybe give him 10 bananas to eat…”

Programme director Fabio Ravezzani said, despite Passirani’s “immediate apologies” that “he could no longer participate in our broadcasts”. “I think it was a terrible lack of momentary lucidity,” added Ravezzani.

Sad stuff. Yes, football is a beautiful game but respect for human rights should supersede all.
