A friend in disguise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being behind the recent 2023 campaign posters of some chieftains of the ruling party. The APC dissociated itself and its members whose names and images appeared on the posters, saying the PDP circulated them to achieve a failed devilish aim.

Those whose images appeared on the posters for the 2023 presidential campaign were the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; and the Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that the party members were focused on governance and delivery on the party’s mandate instead of issues around 2023 elections.

LOL. This one PDP is helping APC to campaign, is like soon our elections will be a one-party affair.

Joblessness, 419 politicians and their corrupting tendencies

The former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, on Thursday, said politicians with no other sources of livelihood may end up getting involved in corrupt acts in public office.

Akande, who spoke in Yoruba at the lecture organised to mark 94th birthday of Second Republic Senator, Pa Ayo Fasanmi, held in Osogbo, said many old-generation politicians had been successful in their careers before venturing into politics. The APC chieftain noted that before Fasanmi was elected as a senator, he had excelled as a pharmacist, adding that present-day politicians with no other source of income would be tempted to engage in graft.

“If you are not established in your profession and you get into politics, you will never do anything that is right,” Akande said. “When we were still active in politics, we were contributing money for the party, but now, the reverse is the case. If politics can go back to the way it was being practised back then, we will have a sane society.”

I agree completely. That explains why our politicians hop from one party to the other, looking for where to secure the bag.

Prado matters: Blessed are the poor, for they shall have 2017 models

The Anambra State government has dismissed reports that members of the Anambra State House of Assembly have rejected Toyota Prado sport utility vehicles (SUVs) given to them by Governor Willie Obiano because they prefer those made by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM). A statement by Mr C. Don Adinuba, the Commissioner for Information & Public Enlightenment, actually blames the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for “planting” the reports in the press.

“Of course, the reports are false and misleading. The legislators did not reject Toyota Prados, nor did they request for Innoson vehicles,” Adinuba said.  “It was the House of Assembly members who asked for Prados, to be in line with vehicles used by legislators in every other state of the federation.

“However, when they saw the huge financial implications of purchasing 30 units of the 2019 model of Toyota Prado vehicles for each honourable member, the 30 lawmakers, easily the most patriotic, productive and considerate of any set of legislators in Nigeria, opted for the 2017 model. They are the only legislators elected in the 2019 general vote to have the older model. By so doing, they have saved for the government and people of Anambra State a fortune.”

Wow. Those ‘poor’, patriotic, productive and considerate lawmakers deserve a medal. It’s times like this that I get sad Rochas no longer rules Imo; he would have statuely done something for them.

Amaechi’s take on gender matters is one-kain

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has urged the women in the maritime industry to stop peddling gender inequality as the reason they don’t get appointments in Nigeria, rather, he urged them to focus on building their competence and lifting one another.

Delivering his keynote address at the 2019 World Maritime Day celebration with the theme: “Empowering Women In The Maritime Community,” in Lagos on Thursday, Amaechi said the appointments were not about gender but about the class one belongs.

According to him, women can only get appointments if they merit it. He added, “I don’t agree with you on the idea of gender because the struggle is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, it’s everywhere in the world. It’s about the class you belong because there are millions of women and men who are dying of hunger. Women get appointments because they merit the appointment.”

Hmmm. On this matter, I get Amaechi’s point about all men and women needing to hustle. But that doesn’t erase the fact that there are gender problems in Nigeria. He should stay woke.

How not to be a father

A father in Saudi Arabia has blamed his wife for him slapping his baby daughter because she could not stand up.

Yousif Alqutai was filmed striking the little girl on the face and back every time she tumbled to the floor. He even grabbed her by the scruff of the neck and dangled her as she continued to cry. Alqutai was arrested and issued an apology video in which he said his wife, mother of his four children, was to blame for abuse that caused him psychological damage.

He said that the video was taken a long time ago and now wants forgiveness. He said: “As you can all see now she is perfectly fine. I tried to teach her to walk and now look by the grace of God she walks by herself.”
