‘Bye bye to…’ and so Onnoghen’s trial becomes a swansong

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, has resigned, a senior lawyer in his legal team confirmed.  “I have just spoken with him. He confirmed to me that he resigned voluntarily yesterday (Thursday),” the senior advocate who said he did not have Onnoghen’s authorisation to speak on the issue said.

Onnoghen had reportedly sent his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, barely 24 hours after the National Judicial Council (NJC) concluded investigating him for various allegations of misconduct.

I don’t blame him for resigning. What got him into this mess, I think, was because there wasn’t any footage to prove his innocence like there was for Ganduje – he wouldn’t even have been taken to court!

On Shittu’s promise of free internet

Adebayo Shittu, Minister of Communications, has said that the Federal Government will ensure free access to the internet in public places across Nigeria. Mr. Shittu said this in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders workshop on the role of the Public Internet Access for Economic Development.

“We are trying to ensure the vision of free Wi-Fi all over, particularly in public spaces, at the airport, schools and all that,” Mr. Shittu said. “The Federal Ministry of Communication will ensure the privacy of beneficiaries of the free internet services is protected.”

LOL. Una sure say una go protect our privacy? Because we dey fear make some so-called bloggers no help us publish our nudes o.

Oti o! Pensioners’ sufferings continue (Part 2)

Retirees, under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Contributory Pensioners (NUCP), have petitioned the House of Representatives to lament the delayed and non-payment of pensions to beneficiaries under the current scheme. In the memorandum submitted to the House of Representatives’ Ad Hoc Committee to Investigate the Activities of the National Pension Commission, the NUCP condemned the current pension system as being administered by PenCom, while calling for a reversal to the old system.

The pensioners particularly blamed pension laws and PenCom’s policies, alleging that the Contributory Pension Scheme was created to enrich Pension Fund Administrators. “Our constitutional right says that our pension should be paid as and when due but 99 per cent of contributory pensioners, they allow us to die, while some have not received their lump sum payment,” Aigbokhaleode Asimiafele, a retired Director in the Federal Ministry of Information, said.

“You can see the lapses and impunity in PenCom. Where is this money; where is it hanging? This is untold hardship. PenCom, they are very insensitive to us, the contributing pensioners. They use the money accrued for the PFAs to make more money.”

This is the exact reason our politicians are fighting hard to remain within the corridors of power: the country doesn’t care for its retirees. Stay woke.

It’s a lie! UAE says Nigerians can still visit

The United Arab Emirates said it has not suspended issuance of three-month tourist visa to Nigerian passport holders. “These news are inaccurate and stresses the importance of sourcing news from its official channel,” the UAE Embassy in Nigeria said on its Twitter handle. The same message was also shared on its Instagram page.

News on social media claimed that Nigerian passport holders were no longer eligible to ‘3 months UAE visa’; instead, the visa will be restricted to just one month. The rumoured suspension followed the arrest of five Nigerians for armed robbery in UAE’s third largest city Sharjah.

I been don dey wonder whether na true sef. Make nobody come rob (LOL) me of my chances of joining Pepper-dem gang soon o.

All these studies sha: Something must kill person

A new study conducted in China has challenged the belief that a drink a day could be good for you, finding that even moderate drinking raises a person’s risk of stroke and high blood pressure. The researchers tracked more than 500,000 people for a decade, looking at their medical history and habits with smoking and drinking.

They found that alcohol increases risk of stroke by around one third for every four additional drinks per day. The researchers want their findings to call for stricter regulations on alcohol, and more awareness of the health risks of even moderate drinking.

This world is replete with killjoys sha. So my guys can’t shack in peace now? Tomorrow they will say breathing in too much air hurts the lungs. Mtcheew.
