The dried bones that have refused to rise

The Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party told President Muhammadu Buhari to consider changing the nation’s security chiefs as one of the ways of tackling insecurity in parts of the country.

It said the nation’s entire security architecture was archaic and in need of complete overhaul. The party’s position was contained in a statement made available by its national spokesman, Sesugh Akume.

“President Buhari pampers Nigeria’s security chiefs who are clearly at their wits’ end, tired and incompetent, extended the terms of those who are due for retirement, and even recalled one out of retirement back to the job,” Akume said. “Nigeria’s entire security system is weak, archaic, and ineffective, desperately in need of complete overhaul.”

LOL. You know that saying about apples not falling far from the tree? Yeah, let’s just be knowing in peace. Nuff said.

Death, expensive funerals and the law in Anambra State

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill to stop expensive funerals in the state. The bill, which was sponsored by the representative of Anaocha II Constituency, Charles Ezeani, now makes it an offence to hold funerals for more than one day in the state. Before the bill was passed, communities held funerals for at least three days.

Ezeani said, “The Burial/Funeral Control Bill is aimed at cutting down the cost of burials in the state.” The bill says in the event of death “no person shall deposit any corpse in the mortuary or any place beyond two months from the date of the death, while burial ceremonies in the state shall be for one day”.  The bill also makes it an offence to destroy property, fire gunshots, block roads during funerals in the state.

Hmmm. Personally I don’t even know why there’s so much fanfare attached to such a somber moment as a funeral. Always plenty mouths to feed, and at the end of the day, your finances are, literally, run into the ground. RIP to that.

“It wasn’t me” – Atiku does it the Shaggy way

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Atiku Abubakar, has said there was no truth in the claim that he spent $30,000 to hire a lobby group to persuade the United States Congress to stop the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He accused the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BMO) of being behind the report which he described as a “total fabrication and a shameless lie.” Atiku made his position known in a statement made available in Abuja by his media adviser, Mr Paul Ibe.

Atiku said, “The APC leaders are behaving nervously like thieves living under the fear of being exposed and shamed. They are now using fake news against me instead of focusing on defending themselves in the court. For a party that has broken the worst record in election rigging, the APC doesn’t have any iota of integrity to be taken seriously by anybody.”

LOL. Naija politics is pure comedy, but not the Nkem Owoh kind though: it’s the cringe worthy, insert-your-least-favourite-comedian (LOL. You dey wait make I mention names ba?) type.

Okorocha to Ihedioha: ‘No dey show yourself’

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has asked the state governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha, to stop creating tension in the state. Okorocha, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, accused Ihedioha of creating tension in the state through what he described as his unguarded utterances and provoking actions.

“It has become increasingly necessary to call on Emeka Ihedioha and PDP chieftains vis-à-vis members of the party in the state to stop creating undue tension through their unguarded utterances and their provoking actions,” he said. Okorocha said that it was wrong for the governor-elect to issue a statement warning civil servants to stop taking instructions from his government. The governor advised Ihedioha to wait until he is inaugurated before he starts acting like a governor.

I’m with Okorocha on this. Ihedioha should take a cue from Sanwo-Olu who has finally let Ambode resume his duties.

3 heads are better than one [or two]

Fertility doctors in Greece and Spain say they have produced a baby from three people in order to overcome a woman’s infertility. The patient was a 32-year-old woman in Greece who had endured four unsuccessful cycles of IVF. The experimental form of IVF uses an egg from the mother, sperm from the father, and another egg from a donor woman.

The baby boy was born weighing 2.9kg (6lbs) on Tuesday. Although some experts in the UK say the procedure raises ethical questions and should not have taken place, the mother and child are said to be in good health.

Meh. Until scientists discover why PHCN takes light whenever it’s about to rain, I’m not interested.
