‘Onnoghen is a sign we are working’

Nigerian presidency said the conviction of embattled Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen by the Code of Conduct Tribunal for false assets declaration is “a major victory for the anti-corruption policy of the Buhari administration”.

“The rule of law would lose its meaning and validity if only the weak, the poor and powerless are punished for their violations of the law. Countries succeed because the rule of law is evenly upheld and enforced,” President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman Garba Shehu said.

“The war against corruption would go nowhere if the high and mighty are spared because of their influence and connections. You can’t fight corruption by allowing impunity because the rule of law cannot function where impunity is tolerated,” he added.

Okay. Una don try for this one. But we know defaulting APC relatives wey never smell courthouse. We have receipts.

Hungry & Angry Times

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams, took on the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on the claim that life had improved under Buhari’s watch.

He said, “…I think the grassroots people should feel the government; they should feel the impact of government by all means…I remember when President Goodluck Jonathan was in power, he said when they are in that Villa, it’s just like being in a prison or a cage; they don’t know what is happening at the grassroots.

“We need…you [to] tell Mr President that Nigerians are suffering. Ebi n pa awon ara ilu (the people are hungry).”

Also, we are angry: at the brutality employed by security agencies, at the rate of crime in the country, at the failure of government in securing the release of the kidnapped schoolgirls, at the bad roads that never get fixed. Jesus, we’re angry at everything!

Real taste of old wine in older wine skins

Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has faulted the kind of democracy practised in Nigeria as a system that cannot bring about the best in all spheres of our national interest.

According to him, no nation can thrive on a static ideology especially in this modern age with its attendant global evolution in all indices of development. That is why our democratic system has to be reviewed by way of restructuring or else it will give more room for constitutional crisis, inequity, mediocrity, injustice and corruption.

“What I am saying in essence is that if we continue to practise democracy without a drastic change, it cannot work. It will only make people poorer and hopeless,” he said.

Hmmm. Tell that to the Ogas at the Top. Shebi one of them recently said we should frustrate the sale of electric cars in Nigeria? This country sha.

Invasion of power in Weah’s office

Snakes have been found in Liberian President George Weah’s office, forcing him to work from his private residence. Press secretary Smith Toby said that on Wednesday two black snakes were found in the foreign affairs ministry building, his official place of work.

All staff have been told to stay away until 22 April.

“It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building,” Mr Toby said. The president is definitely returning to his office on Monday after the fumigation whether or not the snakes are found and killed, Mr Toby added.

Chai. Yesterday, it was rats dancing atilogwu in Buhari’s office. Today it’s snakes fornicating in Weah’s office. Who did Africa offend sef?

How to cut off a vote

An Indian voter, Pawan Kumar, says he chopped off his index finger after realising he had voted for the “wrong” political party – the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  He wanted to vote for a regional party – but was confused by the many symbols on the voting machine.

“I wanted to vote for the elephant, but I voted for the flower by mistake,” Mr Kumar can be heard saying in the now-viral video. He is referring to the party symbols displayed on the voting machine next to the name of each candidate.

SMH. This is why politicians give us money and gifts. They know they can’t afford us losing our fingers.
