‘Abeg, free Aisha Buhari’

The Buhari Media Organisation has said that the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, deserves commendation in her bid to set up a university that would cater to the education of women and girls, especially in the educationally disadvantaged North Eastern region of Nigeria. The group, in a statement signed by its chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and secretary, Cassidy Madueke, said the negative comments on the initiative could only have resulted from poor perception and misunderstanding of the objective behind the planned institution.

“The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari chose to set up a university which she has said would be named after her husband, Muhammadu Buhari. Some have mistaken this charitable venture to be as previous non-charitable endeavours,” the group said. “It is important to note that Mrs Aisha Buhari is embarking on this as a private citizen as she has no official capacity constitutionally recognised. She is using the goodwill of her position to pool resources to invest in education that would be affordable to Nigerians”.

Okay o. Make we dey watch. At least she’s telling Oga Buhari where she really belongs.

Nationalistic monitoring spirits

The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) has advised state governors-elect and National Assembly members-elect not to womanise. JIBWIS National Chairman Ulama’u Council, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, gave the advice in Jos, Plateau State, yesterday at the opening of 26th annual national seminar organised by the group.

He alleged: “We have a lot of information. After we have conducted some research, we found out that a lot of governors, ministers, National Assembly members and government officials perform below expectation because they spend time of work and governance on womanising.

“Even now, we have found out that there was massive exodus of prostitutes from different parts of the country to Abuja where new National Assembly members will be inducted. The prostitutes are travelling to Abuja to get new catch.” Jingir asked them to always remember that they would account for their deeds on the day of judgement.

LOL. Very detailed research. This must be how ‘village people’ operate.

Ramadan kareeem: Pay heed, no bad deeds

An Abuja-based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Yahya Al-Yolawi, has urged traders to show their fear for Allah by not increasing prices of commodities as the Ramadan fast approaches. He also advised Muslims to hasten and seek repentance from the almighty Allah ahead of the month of Ramadan.

Al-Yolawi, who is the Chief Imam of Area 10 Mosque, gave the advice while delivering a Jumma’at sermon titled Tips for Ramadan Preparation in Abuja.

Al-Yolawi further said that fasting in the month of Ramadan was one of the five pillars of Islam, adding that fasting was a protection against sin and evil action.

Sadly, during this period, when I visit some of my Muslim friends and neighours, they behave as if Ramadan is complete with the Ram. Mtcheew.

Old faces, same names

Five former ministers are still listed as members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet on the website of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation [www.osgf.gov.ng] many months after they resigned their appointments to pursue different ambitions.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, had in May 2018 unveiled the website which was upgraded with N64m.

The former ministers who are still on the list include Kemi Adeosun, (Finance); Kayode Fayemi, (Solid Minerals Development); Aisha Al-Hassan, (Women Affairs and Social Development); Khadija Abba-Ibrahim, (Minister of State for Foreign Affairs); and Ibrahim Jibril, (Minister of State for Environment). They were listed in the “Political Appointees” section of the website under the title “Portfolios of ministers, special advisers, senior special assistants, and special assistants to the President.”

No be their fault joor. It would cost Federal Government N100m to correct the error. Money no dey.

The importance of hand [and some other place] washing

An Epidemiologist with the Ondo State Government, Dr Stephen Fagbemi, has reiterated the need for Nigerians to cultivate regular handwashing habit, saying it was capable of saving the country from a lot of diseases. Fagbemi said diseases like malaria, diarrhoea, hepatitis A, cholera, typhoid, and measles can be avoided by simple regular hand washing habits.

“The first thing is to create awareness, sometimes people need to know that it is the simple things that save a lot of time, but when things are so simple we often overlook them. Handwashing is a habit that people should cultivate right from home. Regular hand washing after toilet, after holding currency can go a long way in keeping people healthy.

“Apart from educating the people, we should ensure there are handwashing spaces in public spaces. When the facilities are available it is easy to encourage people to imbibe the habit. Many diseases can be prevented by simple handwashing habits. It is not about sanctioning, because when you force people to do it, the desired result will not be achieved.”

Hmmm. But Doctor, why did you forget to add that people should also wash their hands after scratching their yansh? In my book, that’s the most important sef.
