These teachers want their reward here, now

Some retired workers from the Lagos State Ministry of Education have lamented the delay in the payment of their pensions. The former teachers said more than two years after retirement, they have yet to receive any communication from the government over their entitlements. They said while some of their colleagues had died without getting any payment, others were sick and lacked adequate medical care.

The retirees spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they were afraid of intimidation. A former primary school head teacher said all required documents for the processing and payment had been submitted.

She said, “I was a head teacher in a primary school before I retired in 2017. Till now, I have not received anything. All the documents they asked us to submit preparatory to our retirement were submitted. We were told that they had paid up till 2015. When will it get to us? Is it when we die and cannot eat the fruit of our labour?”

Oh please, these teachers sef. Don’t they know that their reward is in heaven? Check the Nigerian constitution, it’s written there.

G Boys called Nigerian politicians

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, has hit at state governors, saying that some of them deliberately fuelled insecurity in their states just to collect more money as security vote. He noted that some of the governors “now covertly promote insecurity as justification to inflate their security vote.”

He spoke in Abuja at the induction programme for returning and newly-elected state governors held at the Presidential Villa.

He said, “We have also seen evidence of theft of public resources by some state governors –  cashing in on the insecurity in their states. Insecurity has also offered the required oxygen for corruption to thrive as evident in the $2.1bn arms procurement scandal involving top military commanders both serving and retired.”

LOL. This is why Naira Marley believes he’s fighting a just cause. Warped system everywhere.

The trouble with female genital mutilation

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) seeking to end female genital mutilation (FGM) in the country, Value Re-Orientation for Community Enhancement, has called on international agencies and government at all levels to ensure the full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act.

While presenting the report of the investigation carried out in Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states, the group’s Executive Director, Ademola Adebisi condemned the poor implementation of the act which was signed into law in 2015, putting the lives of young girls at risk.

“… in the course of our investigation, we discovered that those who hide their children or even run away with them so as not to undergo the act are compelled to bring the children back home to carry out the rite or risk being excommunicated and ostracised or even called bastards,” he said.

This is worryingly sad. There needs to be more enlightenment. The devastating effects of FMG on young girls is one that transcends into adulthood, and damages, not only their relationship with others, but most importantly, with themselves.

When love’s got you covered…literally

The king of Thailand has married the deputy head of his personal security detail, and given her the title of queen, a royal statement has said. The surprise announcement comes before his elaborate coronation ceremonies begin on Saturday, when his position is consecrated.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, 66, became the constitutional monarch after the death of his much-loved father in 2016. He has been married and divorced three times before and has seven children.  A royal statement said: King Vajiralongkorn “has decided to promote General Suthida Vajiralongkorn Na Ayudhya, his royal consort, to become Queen Suthida and she will hold royal title and status as part of the royal family”.

Queen Suthida is King Vajiralongkorn’s long-term partner and has been seen with him in public for many years, though their relationship has never before been officially acknowledged.

All that is missing from this plot is a wicked and jealous member of the royal family played by Chiwetalu Agu. LOL. Congrats to the couple though.

Anthony Joshua ready to teach Andy Ruiz Jr a lesson

Anthony Joshua has warned Andy Ruiz Jr not to provoke him after his opponent labelled him a ‘big robot’ ahead of their fight in June. Ruiz Jr aimed the dig at Joshua after it was confirmed the Mexican heavyweight would replace Jarrell Miller for AJ’s debut in America.

Joshua will fly out to America in the coming days and was surprised to hear Ruiz Jr was slagging him off just hours after their fight was announced. “Wow. he’s started his trash talk already,” Joshua said.

“I thought he was a cool guy and I was going to go in there and beat him up slowly. But if he talks reckless, I will batter him. You can’t push these buttons, I’ll punish you.”

Wow. If I were Andy, I’d not say a word because AJ is man looking for who to pour Big Baby-fuelled frustrations on.
