Toto Wolff puts Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes success third in life achievement list

Toto Wolff’s stunning success at Mercedes only ranks third in his list of all-time achievements, according to the Team Principal himself. The Austrian joined the Silver Arrows in 2013, and has since overseen seven drivers’ title wins – six of which have gone to Lewis Hamilton – and eight straight constructors’ championships.

Their dominance partially came to an end in 2021, when Max Verstappen controversially beat Hamilton to the individual crown following at the now infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Regardless, Wolff has built a reputation for being one of the most powerful figures in motorsport, but his achievements aren’t restricted to F1 circles. The 50-year-old arrived in the sport off the back of a strong investment background, and was the subject of a Harvard Business School leadership case study.

And when recently asked to list his best achievements, he said: “My number one achievement is Susie marrying me followed closely by the HBS leadership case study,” he said. “And third would be winning eight (constructors’) championships in a row.”

Susie, 39, was named as a development driver for Williams in 2012, and two years later participated at the race weekend at Silverstone. She was later elevated to the role as test driver, eventually retiring in 2015 after representing Scotland in the Race of Champions.

In 2017 she and Toto welcomed their first child, but the female star is still regularly seen at races. Indeed, Any_Cup_4333 noted on Reddit: “Their time management must be fantastic!” while @lein1829 said: “They’re awfully adorable for being multi-millionaires.”

Wolff may welcome the outside distractions in his life at the moment, given the current pressure he’s under with Mercedes having been plagued this season by the notion of porpoising. But he’s ruled out a ‘drastic’ upgrade in Texas this weekend as the Silver Arrows bid to finish the season strongly.

“Our final update package of the year will be brought to Austin,” he said. “It won’t drastically change our fortunes but we’re hopeful it will bring us a step forward and closer to the front runners.” (Express)
