Three bodies have been recovered following the crash of an NNPC Limited-contracted helicopter off the Nigerian coast on Thursday, according to an NNPC statement by Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer.
The East Winds Aviation helicopter, with registration number 5NBQG, carrying six passengers and two crew members, lost contact at approximately 11:22 am while en route from Port Harcourt NAF Base to the NUIMS-ANTAN FPSO facility.
“Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing,” Soneye confirmed, adding that relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Aviation, have been notified and are involved in the response efforts.
NNPC Limited has pledged full support for the search and rescue mission while expressing condolences to the affected families during “this very difficult time.”
