Drug trafficking: NDLEA intercepts 18.8kg of tramadol in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted a total of 34,950 tramadol and diazepam capsules weighing 18.8kg in Lagos.
The NDLEA made this known on Saturday in a statement titled ‘NDLEA seizes 34,950 tramadol, diazepam capsules going to Borno in Lagos’, signed by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, the drugs, suspected to be transported to insurgents’ camps in Borno State, were recovered from a 25-year-old Mohammed Isah on Tuesday.
Isah was arrested at SD Motors park in Agege, Lagos with “12, 390 capsules of Tramadol weighing 4.8kg and 22,560 tablets of Diazepam with a total weight of 14kg, bringing the total weight of the exhibits to 18.8kg.” Read more
EFCC nabs father, son for alleged Internet fraud in Lagos (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it had commenced investigation into alleged conspiracy, computer-related fraud, obtaining by false pretences and retention of proceeds of unlawful activities levelled against one Malik Bakare.
A statement by the anti-graft agency’s Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said Malik was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, Lagos, on May 31, 2021, and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution.
The statement read in part, “Investigation revealed that he acts as a middleman, who connects Internet fraudsters around the globe with pickers, and receives some percentage on every successful transaction from the proceeds of unlawful activities.”
The suspect’s father was also arrested when he came forward to claim ownership of a Range Rover SUV that was retrieved from his son without a proof of ownership. Read more
Lagos CP Odumosu to traders, your safety guaranteed (Nation)
Lagos State Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has assured traders in the state of their safety and the readiness of the police to counter any security breach.
He gave the assurance during an interactive meeting with traders from major markets across the state. It was at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
The police boss’ assurance came on the heels of a viral social media audio and visual messages purporting plans by criminal elements to attack Alaba International Market.
According to Odumosu, the command has tightened security in all markets, advising the traders to go about their lawful businesses without panic. Read more
Sanwo-Olu to smoke out criminals from abandoned buildings (DailyTrust)
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, said that criminals would no longer find a space in Lagos State as a long list of abandoned buildings across local government areas and local council development areas of the state, which may serve as safe havens for them have been compiled for a necessary action.
Sanwo-Olu who spoke during a live interview on Arise TV on Monday disclosed the government’s plan to take control of such buildings so as to ensure that they do not become security threats in communities where they have been found.

“The popular thinking is that such buildings are occupied by criminals who use them to plan attacks. Two days ago, I received a report of abandoned buildings across the state from Neighbourhood Watch. The list is about 250 pages with addresses and pictures of the buildings. These are some of the places where the criminals and miscreants hide to launch their activities.
“We are passing this list to the security for immediate response and actions. This surveillance speaks to the necessity of state police. All the preventable criminalities happening are because we have not agreed as a nation that there should be state police. We have been an advocate of state police and it is one of the submissions I made at the recent public hearing on constitutional amendment in Lagos. Read more
Mob set ablaze suspected kidnapper in Lagos (Vanguard)
There was a commotion in Agege area of Lagos State in the early hours on Tuesday, when mob set ablaze a suspected kidnapper with their get-away vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, the incident happened at about 9 am, in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, LCDA,
Two out of the three suspected kidnappers were, however, rescued by the Police and Subsequently, taken into custody for further investigation.
According to an eyewitness account, “A commercial motorcycle operator popularly called; “Okada,” said to have engaged the suspected kidnappers in a hot chase from Ajegunle Toll-Gate, along Lagos-Ogun boundary spot after some of the school children kidnapped cried out for help through the window of the kidnapers’ vehicle.
“But, nemesis caught up with them at Mulero Bus Stop in Orile-Agege LCDA, where their vehicle was intercepted by some passersby after the okada operator raised alarm to alert passersby of the action of the suspects.” Read more
JUSUN strike: Police in Lagos decongesting cells – PPRO (Guardian)
The police in Lagos have devised means to decongest its cells amidst the prolonged strike by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
Police spokesman in the state, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the decongestion was carried out in collaboration with the office of the Chief Judge and Attorney-General of the state.
NAN reports that JUSUN on April 6 directed its members to shut down all courts across the country, demanding the implementation of law granting financial autonomy to the Judiciary.
”The command had been managing the situation in collaboration with the office of the state chief judge,” he said.
He, however, did not give the number of suspects that had been granted bail.
“We work with the office of the CJ and Attorney-General of Lagos State to decongest our cells.

“The CJ has provided the services of some Magistrates and District Prosecutors to assess case files and grant bail to some suspects.

Lady who lodged with boyfriend in Lagos hotel falls sick, dies (Punch)
A lady, identified only as Esther, has died after lodging with her boyfriend, Emmanuel Isibor, at the T1 Suites in the Festac area of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the lovers visited the hotel to spend the night together.
While in the room, it was learnt that Esther suddenly took ill and in the process, foamy substances started coming out from her mouth and nostrils.
Jolted by the turn of events, Isibor was said to have sought help by calling the manager of the hotel to rescue his girlfriend.
In a bid to revive her, PUNCH Metro gathered that Isibor and members of staff of the hotel quickly rushed Esther to a nearby hospital, but she died on the way.A source told PUNCH Metro that the doctor on duty at the hospital certified that Esther was brought in dead, adding that the manager of the hotel proceeded to the Festac Police Station to report the incident.
