Driver of truck who crushed Lagos pupils arrested, say police (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested the driver of a hit-and-run truck who crushed some pupils on Tuesday along Ogunusi Road, Grammar School Bus Stop, Lagos State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the arrest of the driver, adding that investigation had commenced into the incident.

“The driver has been arrested. Investigation into the accident is ongoing,” he told reporters.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the pupils were on their way home after school activities and had wanted to cross the road when the truck ran over them. Read more

Police in Lagos nab man with gun, live ammunition (NewTelegraph)

Detectives attached to the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old robbery suspect, Abdullahi Zakari at Ojo area of the state.

The suspect was arrested at about 9:30pm November 3O, 2021 along NEPA Road, Alaba Rago Market, Ojo area, by an anti-crime patrol team of the Ojo Police Division during a routine patrol of the area.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement Monday said some items recovered from the suspect include two locally-made pistols and one live cartridge concealed in a bag.

Ajisebutu said the suspect, upon interrogation, confessed to be one of the men of the underworld that are responsible for the  spate of robbery in traffic in Alaba, Ojo, Iba and similar places in the state in recent time. Read more

Landlord’s son arraigned for allegedly stabbing tenant with bottle (Sun)

A 30-year-old landlord’s son, Nurudeen Adegboyega, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting a tenant with a bottle.

The police charged Adegboyega, who resides in Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State, with assault.

The defendant committed the offence on Oct. 2 at 9:00 a.m., in his residence; the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Mojirade Edeme, told the court.

She said that the defendant assaulted one Mr Lukmon Tanimowo, by stabbing him with a bottle over an unpaid rent. Read more

NNS Beecroft arrests 5 Europe-bound stowaways, hands over to Immigration (ThisDay)

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT recently arrested five Europe-bound stowaways caught onboard MT CHEMSTRANS BALTIC vessel at Lagos anchorage.

The suspects were said to have gained illegal access to the ship but were caught by the crew and handed over to the NNS BEECROFT patrol team during routine harbour patrol.

The Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Bashir Mohammed, in a signed statement stated that findings during the interrogation revealed that MT Chemstrans Baltic was Europe-bound.

He further stated that the stowaways, aged between 23 and 27 years, confessed that they had travelled to Lagos with the intention of leaving the country for Europe in search of greener pasture before they were apprehended. Read more

Mob vandalise vehicles as truck crushes 10 Lagos students, police declare 2 dead (Punch)

There was pandemonium on Tuesday when a truck driver reportedly crushed no fewer than 10 students on Ogunnusi Road, Grammar School Bus-Stop, Lagos State.

It was learnt that the students were going home after closing from school around 2pm when the truck ran over them.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the driver of the white DAF truck was being chased when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the pupils, who were by the roadside.

The driver, who took to his heels after the incident, was reportedly caught at Aguda — about two kilometres from the scene of the incident — by some students and youths who accosted him and later handed him over to the police. Read more

Bizman to serve life jail for defiling neighbour’s daughter (Leadership)

Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court yesterday convicted and sentenced a 54-year-old businessman, Bashir Olashekere, to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s daughter.

Justice Soladoye jailed Olashekere for life after finding him guilty of a one-count charge of defilement contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The judge in her judgment described the convict as a “randy neighbour” who should be ashamed of his action.

Justice Soladoye said: “Children are special and should be nurtured with love and care and should not be molested by an irresponsible randy neighbour. The defendant therefore is to pay for his sexual indiscretions.  Read more
