High cost of tuition fee: Kids now go for skill acquisition (Vanguard)

Mrs Juliana Origin, a Lagos- based trader, had to take her daughter to a catering school for a year when she saw she couldn’t meet up with the fees for the child to study catering and management at a state university she was admitted into.

It was a pathetic story, yet one she was proud of because even university graduates now still go back to acquire skills to be relevant in today’s society.

The state of the economy is worsening. Parents cannot afford a daily meal for their family, let alone pay ridiculous amounts as fees for their children to acquire a university degree.

She said: “My daughter, who just wrote her Senior School Certificate Exam, SSCE, and Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, was admitted to study catering management. When we heard about the cost of school fees and other fees for new intakes, I had to convince her to go for skill acquisition in catering services as the course itself requires practicals not theory. “Music is still alive and this is why venues like this are so important, because if we didn’t have venues I wouldn’t be about, and I know a lot of others wouldn’t be about. There are so many artists, so many genres of music, so many different people that are wanting or needing to be found. Ukraine’s biggest soccer club urges FIFA to ban Iran from World Cup (TimesOfIsrael)

Ukraine’s top soccer club on Monday urged FIFA to remove Iran from the World Cup because of the country’s alleged military support to the Russian invasion.

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin accused Iran of “direct participation in terrorist attacks on Ukrainians,” suggesting his own country’s team should play in Qatar instead as a replacement.

“This will be a fair decision that should draw the attention of the whole world to a regime that kills its best people and helps kill Ukrainians,” Palkin said in a statement one day before his team plays at Celtic in the Champions League.

The White House said Thursday that the US has evidence that Iranian troops are “directly engaged on the ground” in Crimea supporting Russian drone attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure and civilian population. And the head of Ukraine’s intelligence service, Kyrylo Budanov, said in a published interview on Monday that Russian forces had used about 330 Iranian-built “Shahed” drones as of Saturday — and that more had been ordered. Daniel Ricciardo: Outgoing McLaren driver hints at 2023 F1 reserve role (Sky)

Daniel Ricciardo has dropped a strong hint he will be a reserve driver in Formula 1 next season, insisting he is not “going away” from the sport despite having not claimed a seat for 2023.

The Australian, who is leaving McLaren at the end of the season after in August having his contract terminated a year early followingly hugely underwhelming performances on the track, was initially linked with several F1 drives for 2023.

However, with all but Haas’ second seat now filled and Ricciardo out of contention for that role, the only position that could keep him in the sport next year would be a reserve driver role.

“I’ll be around, don’t worry,” Ricciardo said ahead of the United States Grand Prix. Read more
