Two arrested for luring girls to hotels with fake modelling jobs

Two men, Stanley Odachi, 27 and Chuks Oragwu, 31, have been arrested for allegedly stealing phones and valuables from some unsuspecting ladies, after luring them to hotels with fake modelling jobs.

The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday while they were luring another victim to a hotel in Igando, Alimosho, Lagos.

The Police said: “The suspects used to pose on social media as agents’ recruiting models. But the fact is that they used the gimmick to lure young models to hotels and bars and dispossess them of money and personal belongings. As at the time of their arrest on Wednesday, about five girls have registered complaints with RRS. The victims stated that the suspects absconded with their mobile phones and money under the pretext of registering them for modelling jobs. At least four other models refused to press charges. Two other victims stated that they were having examination in school and couldn’t make formal complaints.” Read more

Blue Rail Line to commence operation next year – Lagos govt (Tribune)

Lagos State government on Sunday gave an assurance that by December 2020, the Blue Rail Line project will come on stream and will be fully operational in the next two years from Mile 2 to Marina in its aggressive drive to address the transportation problem in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, said this at a joint press briefing with his counterpart in Ministry of Transportation, Dr Fredric Oladeinde, and others, in commemoration of 200 days in office of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, held in Alausa, Ikeja.

Omotoso also said works were also at advanced stage on the Red Line from Agbado/Iju to Oyingbo, pointing out that all these were being done to boost rail transportation in order to take pressure off the road, even as he disclosed that the construction of proposed 4th Mainland Bridge might soon commence as concessionaires are now showing interest in the project. IBB Varsity Confers Hon. Degree On Tinubu, Others (Independent)

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State has awarded Honorary Degree on the former Lagos State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, just as a female, for the first time, emerged overall best graduating student of the citadel established thirteen years ago.

Another recipient of the university’s award is the first female Judge in Niger state, Justice Maria Dzukogi and the late former Governor and founder of the university, Engineer Abdulkadir Abdullahi Kure who was honoured posthumously for immense contribution to the state education sector.

Addressing guests and graduands over the weekend at the school’s main campus, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammed Nasiru Maiturare said a total of 3, 212 students were graduated at the 3rd combined convocation from the various disciplines. Read more

Abuja-Kano road collapses amid project delay (DailyTrust)

The condition of the 375km Abuja-Kano, road which passes through Kaduna and Zaria towns, has continued to deteriorate even as reconstruction of the dual carriage highway is suffering from undue delay.

Different reasons have been given as to why work on the project is sluggish, including alleged poor funding by the federal government occasioned by failure of the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, to deploy enough equipment and manpower to fast track the reconstruction of the road.

The House of Representatives Committee on Works, led by Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, had last week tongue-lashed the construction giant, which is solely handling the project, for subjecting millions of Nigerians to hardship while plying the road, and threatened to split the contract and bring on board other contractors to hasten completion. Former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd), on Sunday, dismissed as false, reports of his death, saying he is alive and bubbling.

The social media was abuzz with rumours of the former military ruler’s death on Sunday morning.

However, his media aide, Prince Kassim Agegbua, said Babangida is very much alive.

NNPC declares N5.20bn trading surplus in August (Vanguard)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said it made ₦5.20billion trading surplus for the month of August, reflecting an increase of 22 per cent compared with the ₦4.26 billion surplus posted in July.

The corporation disclosed this in its Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) for the month of August released in Abuja on Sunday.

It attributed the appreciable increase of 22 per cent within the period under review to largely the improved surplus posted by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC). Read more
