The Presidency has replied to reactions trailing the departure of President Bola Tinubu from the United Kingdom to France, saying the President is still on a two-week leave.

The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, had in a statement on October 2, announced Tinubu’s departure for a two-week vacation.

Onanuga’s short statement had read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for the United Kingdom to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave. Read more

Court rules on $2.045m, properties linked to Emefiele Nov 1 (Nation)

Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos has set November 1, 2024 to decide on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s request for the final forfeiture of $2.045 million and assets linked to ex-Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The court will also rule on the application filed by Emefiele  challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the forfeiture proceedings. 

The court, on August 25, 2024, authorised the EFCC to temporarily take custody of the cash sum of $2.045million, seven choice landed properties and shares linked to Emefiele. Read more 

4 die, 3 injured in Oyo auto crash (Leadership)

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons while three others sustained injuries in a tragic auto accident that occurred in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

FRSC Corps Commander in the state, Rosemary Alo who confirmed the accident, said it took place along Ogbomoso – Orile Igbon at Emaayo Filling Station.

The Corps Commander who disclosed that the accident occurred by 11pm on Friday, said it involved two trailers without registration numbers. Read more

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the clearance of a member of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, over alleged culpable homicide.

A three-member panel of justices of the appellate court led by Justice Adebukola Banjoko, dismissed the Kano State

Government’s appeal of a similar judgement of the Federal High Court for lack of merit.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, in its judgement by Justice Donatus Okorowo in suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/714/2019, agreed with the lawmaker that the charges amounted to an infringement on his fundamental human rights and restrained the Kano State Government from arresting, detaining, and prosecuting him and awarded the sum of N25 million as damages. Sokoto: Bandits hire, fire village heads in my LG, says council chairman (Tribune)

The chairman of Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sharifu Kamarawa, has disclosed that bandits take liberty to appoint and depose village heads in some communities within the council area.

Kamarawa made the revelation when the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, visited some communities in eastern Isa, Sabon Birni and Goronyo local government areas of the state.

He said the bandits led by Kachalla Bello Turji appoint and depose village heads at will in those areas. Read more 

Reps seek establishment of Bola Tinubu University to teach Nigerian languages (Vanguard)

The House of Representatives has passed for first reading a bill to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal University of Nigerian Languages, which could add another university to the existing institutions.

Sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and eight others, the bill aims to promote the learning of Nigerian languages.

According to Section II, Part I of the bill, the university will “encourage the advancement of learning and provide opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race, creed, sex, or political beliefs, to acquire higher education in Nigerian languages and cultures.” Read more

Tribal clashes killed at least 11 people in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday and injured eight, including women and children, a local official said.

Tensions rose in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, after two people were critically injured in a shooting incident between rival tribes. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the shooting.

The European Union has said it is deeply concerned about draft Israeli legislation that would ban the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees from operating in Israel and likely scale back aid distribution across war-ravaged Gaza.

Earlier this week, an Israeli parliamentary committee approved a bill that would ban UNRWA from operating in Israeli territory and end all contact between the government and the UN agency. The bill needs final approval from the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.
