Unchained Vibes Africa (UVA) is gearing up to host a historic event that aims to promote national unity and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Nigeria. Titled “Freedom Vibes 7.0 Naija Day,” this event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at the iconic Freedom Park, located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
Naija Day is much more than a cultural festival; it is a collective effort to raise awareness about the dangers of ethnic and religious politics while contributing to the healing process following one of the most divisive elections in Nigeria’s history. The event’s ultimate goal is to rebuild and rekindle mutual trust and hope for a better Nigeria.
The celebration will feature a dazzling array of Nigeria’s multiculturalism, with contemporary cultural displays by various troupes, including the legendary Igbabonaremhin Acrobatic Dance of the Esan people, Idoma Sabada Dance, Efik Ekombi Dance, the Anioma Cultural Group, and the Crown Troupe of Africa. A vibrant procession will also take place in the vicinity of Freedom Park.
To cap off the evening, Naija Day will culminate in a concert featuring some of Nigeria’s most iconic musical talents. Headlined by ARA, Nigeria’s internationally acclaimed female talking drummer, and hip-hop music icon Eedris Abdulkareem, the event promises an unforgettable musical experience. Other notable performers include Jude Chukwuka, Abbey Trombone, Nuel Scroll, and a special appearance by Anselm Ramachar, a German percussionist with a mastery of Yoruba Bata drumming.
The event will not only entertain but also educate, with influential speakers like Nollywood actor Jude Orhorha, the Chair of the Rastafari community in Nigeria Myke Pam, DJ Bola Browne, and several others set to address the audience.
Naija Day is meticulously designed to celebrate Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage and emphasize the importance of intercultural understanding and national unity. It also shines a spotlight on contemporary arts and cultural expressions from minority ethnic groups that often have less visibility at national gatherings.
Unchained Vibes Africa, the driving force behind this remarkable event, is a cultural organisation and social enterprise dedicated to leveraging the power of the arts to promote civic education, good governance, human rights, cultural diversity, and the spirit of solidarity in Africa. The inaugural Naija Day promises to be a milestone in fostering unity and diversity in Nigeria, transcending the boundaries of ethnicity and religion to create a brighter future for the nation.
