Undergraduate buys N1m phones with fake debit alert, flees (Punch)
A member of the National Youth Service Corps, Azeez Bakare, has accused a 400-level Computer Science undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Eric Idowu, of absconding with phones valued at N1m, after allegedly purchasing the products with a fake bank alert.
Idowu had on Thursday, August 2, 2018, allegedly used a fake name, Leonard Adegoke, to order for the items from Bakare.
Bakare, 22, said Idowu had remained elusive since the items were delivered to him at his house.
He said, “Apart from being a corps member, I run a mobile phone business. On Thursday, August 2, around 4.30pm, I received a call from a customer, who identified himself as Leonard Adeleke. He ordered for three used iPhone 8 Plus and one brand new iPhone X.
The address he gave me was no 20, University Road, Abule-Oja, Yaba, Lagos. I went there to deliver the goods around 7pm the same day. Read more
Police arrest 150 suspected cultists, kidnappers in Lagos (PremiumTimes)
The Police in Lagos said on Tuesday that they arrested 150 suspected cultists and kidnappers in the last one year in the Epe community.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Epe, Adeyeri Sunday, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview at Epe.
Mr. Sunday, a chief superintendent of police, said the arrests were made between July 2017 and July 2018.
He said the arrests were made in several locations in the locality, such as Okemagba area, Ita-opo, Poka, Temu, Papa, Noforija, T-Junction, Aiyetoro and Lagos road, to mention but a few.
“These arrests were made in the suburbs of Epe and also within the town.

Friend kills Lagos driver to date girlfriend (Punch)
A 28-year-old bus driver, Abraham Umar, has been killed by suspected cult members at Cele bus stop, in the Ijanikin area of Lagos State.
The police said the victim was set up by his friend who was obsessed with his (Abraham’s) 17-year-old girlfriend.
Punch Metro learnt that Abraham, aka Abi, was eating at the girlfriend’s mother’s bamboo restaurant when the gunmen invaded the place around 9pm on Tuesday. They reportedly shot the Benue State indigene in the head, killing him on the spot. Read more
Soldier arrested over alleged robbery (Vanguard)
A private with the Nigerian Army has been arrested during an alleged foiled attempt to snatch a motorcycle from its rider in Agboju area of Lagos.
Recovered from the suspect, who was clad in complete military camouflage, was a locally made pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The suspect, Daniel Okeke, as gathered, boarded the commercial motorcycle commonly known as okada from Mile Two to Ojo Barracks where he claimed he resides.
However on reaching Agboju, the rider alleged that the suspect alighted and attempted to snatch the motorbike from him. Read more
Policeman intervenes in Agboyi-Ketu communal clash (Punch)
An unidentified policeman has been photographed trying to save some motorcycles that were set on fire during a communal clash in Agboyi-Ketu area of Lagos.
The photos, which were posted on Twitter by Malik Nasir @malikandu, on Wednesday showed the policeman bending to get water from an open drainage and pouring same on the burning pile of motorcycles.
Nasir wrote: “I adore the bravery of this officer yesterday (Tuesday) amidst Agboyi – Ketu okada riders and community members clash, which claimed a life. This police officer ceaselessly drew water from the dirty drainage channels to douse raging fire on assembled okada and burning kiosks around. Even the residents stayed off and were watching him from afar. May God continue to be with him and his family wherever they are. Kudos to him.” Read more
Police arrest Lagos truck thieves in Niger (NewTelegraph)
Police in Niger State have arrested four members of a gang of thieves specialised in stealing trucks in Lagos State.
The suspects, who have been snatching and selling stolen vehicles for some years, were intercepted along Sabo Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State. The suspects, Safiu Amisu, 29, Samson Audu, 32, Ismaila Aburata, 27 and Philip Amodu, 25, were trailed and apprehended by the police detectives attached to Tafa Division.
It was learnt that the four suspects hailed from Kaduna.
The suspects, who have stolen one Iveco truck with registration number Lagos KTU 422 XP belonging to Sinoma Kun-Shan Chinese Company in Lagos, drove the vehicle to the northern part of the country to sell. Read more
1 killed as youths, motorcyclists clash in Lagos (Nation)
A young man identified as Toib Awolesi, 28, was on Tuesday killed and his body dumped inside a river after commercial motorcyclists and community youths clashed in Lagos.
The incident occurred at Agboyi, a riverine community in Alapere. It was gathered that crisis started on Monday night after Awolesi, a generator repairer from across the river, was said to have bought a new motorcycle.
It was learnt that the deceased on his way home, was stopped by commercial motorcycles, who pleaded to test drive the new bike.
Having obliged the two, a third person was said to have come forward to also test drive but his request was turned down by Awolesi on ground that thy have over tested it. Read more
Twin brothers, 6 others docked over diversion of N31.7m cashew nuts (Vanguard)
Twin brothers, Taiwo and Kehinde Akintade, 34, and six others, were Tuesday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Igbosere, over alleged diversion of cashew nuts worth N31,788,000,040.
The twins were arraigned alongside Jelili Elo, 35; Adeshina Sikiru, 32; Sadiq Morufu; Femi Adegboyega, 27; Dada Ishola, 32, and Mohammed Yunusa, 28.
The defendants, who are facing two count charges of conspiracy and unlawful diversion, were docked before Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku.
The prosecuting counsel, Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 20, at Isolo area of the state, where they were working for the complainant, Mr. Jamiu Oke. Read more
