Unemployed man in court for alleged theft of truck battries

A 25- year-old unemployed man, Femi Adeolu, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two truck batteries valued, N110,000.

The defendant, who resides at 28, Adeniyi St., Oshodi, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 28 at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja.

Odugbo said that the defendant stole the batteries from the truck after it broke down by the roadside.

“The complainant, Mr Olajide Fasasi reported the case at the police station and the defendant was later apprehended,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.F Onamusi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Onamusi adjourned the case until June 14 for for continuation of hearing. (NAN)
