The University of Benin, Edo State, has said that it received 34,497 applications from candidates in the last Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in 2017.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, disclosed this at the institution’s matriculation ceremony for the 2017/2018 academic session.
Faraday, however, noted that out of over 30,000 applications, only 10,909 prospective students secured admission to study different academic programmes.
He stated, “The University of Benin, as a result of all-round excellence, has continued to receive large numbers of applications for admissions on a daily basis.
“For the 2017/2018 academic session, the university received about 34,497 applications while a total of 10,909 applicants were given provisional admission and are matriculating this academic session.”
