I was angry after watching Fr Mbaka’s video until a priest friend of mine sent this in another whatsapp platform, this consoled me, and I hope it will console all who felt disappointed with Fr Mbaka’s utterances. Read: ‘Brothers, I didn’t have the courage to finish the video…it was so disgusting and pitiable.. my only consolation was that Governor Obi didn’t bulge to Mbaka’s antics. It should serve as a lesson to us priests especially those regarded as “powerful Priests”. We must be more careful and tactful especially when our fame is on the upsurge otherwise we throw caution to the winds and make utterances that cast question marks on our so called gift and prophecy. Prisoners have right to vote, Appeal Court rules (Punch)
The Court of Appeal sitting in Benin, Edo state, has affirmed the right of inmates across the country to vote. The decision of the court followed an appeal filed by five inmates on behalf of other inmates in Nigerian prisons to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission to include their names in the voter register. The court, however, refused to grant a request that INEC should liaise with the Nigerian Prisons Service to create registration centres at various prisons across the country. Read more

France is braced for renewed anti-government protests, with nearly 90,000 security personnel on the streets. Some 8,000 officers and 12 armoured vehicles will be deployed in Paris alone, where shops have been boarded up and sites like the Eiffel Tower closed. The “yellow vest” movement began three weeks ago in opposition to a rise in fuel tax but ministers say it has been hijacked by “ultra-violent” protesters. Huawei: Meng Wanzhou faces Iran fraud charges, court hears (BBC)
The chief financial officer of the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei faces fraud charges in the United States, a Canadian court hearing has revealed. Meng Wanzhou, daughter of Huawei’s founder, is accused of breaking American sanctions on Iran. She was arrested in Vancouver on Saturday and faces extradition to the US. China has demanded Ms Meng’s release, insisting she has not violated any laws. The court is deciding whether or not to allow bail. Friday’s five-hour hearing has now ended and the case was adjourned until Monday. Read more
Congo Brazzaville emerges as candidate to host 2019 African Nations Cup (Guardian)
Congo Brazzaville has emerged as a strong contender to host next year’s rearranged Africa Cup of Nations, according to a senior official in the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Constant Omari, a vice-president of CAF, also said that the dossier of Guinea, hosts-designate of the 2023 edition, does not exist. “Congo Brazzaville has written to organise (2019),” Omari told Radio France International. Man City will not be banned – Guardiola (BBC)
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he has been assured by senior figures at the club that they will not be banned from European competition for Financial Fair Play irregularities. A series of allegations were made in Der Spiegel last month after what City said were “leaks” and an “organised attempt” to smear the club were passed on by the Football Leaks organisation. Reports this week suggested the claims could lead to City being banned should Uefa decide to take action, and a senior figure in European football told the BBC the entire credibility of FFP is at risk if Europe’s governing body and the Premier League do not fully investigate the allegations. WBC sanctions Wilder-Fury rematch (BBC)
The WBC has sanctioned a “direct rematch” between heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury. Britain’s Fury and American Wilder shared a controversial and thrilling draw in Los Angeles on Saturday. Both fighters have said they want a rematch, while Fury is pushing for it to be in the UK. The WBC said in a statement there was a “unanimous agreement” to sanction a rematch in a meeting of the board of governors. Read more
Petrol tanker crushes newly wedded man to death in Ondo (Vanguard)
A newly wedded man and expectant father identified as Kayode Esan who was a commercial motorcyclist was yesterday crushed to death by a 33,000 laden NNPC tanker in Akure, the Ondo state capital. The tanker driver, his partner and the police traffic warden at the scene were almost lynched but for the timely intervention of police detectives who raced to the scene and gave them protection. Man has sex with pregnant goat (Punch)
A man, who admitted having sex with a pregnant goat, has had his jail term extended to 15 years. Reuben Mwamba had previously been imprisoned by a court in Zambia for five years but prosecutors were outraged, so they took his case to a higher court. Now the Kasama High Court has sentenced the 22-year-old to 15 years of hard labour. The man had admitted carnal knowledge of a pregnant goat. The court was told that Mwamba of Mutono village had broken section 155 (b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia. Read more

Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Adeniji-Adele Annex, have busted a two-man robbery syndicate terrorising Idimu, Ikotun and Igando areas of Lagos State. The suspects – Sunkanmi Emmanuel, aka Federal, 30 and 28-year-old Ahmed Agunbiade, aka Omojoyibo – were arrested last week in the Igando area while they were reportedly going for a robbery operation. It was learnt that the suspects specialised in robbing club goers of their belongings, including motorcycles in the communities. Read more
We killed Rivers cult members but didn’t behead them – Army (Punch)
The Nigerian Army has said that its men killed two notorious cultists, Christian Kenjika, aka School Boy, and one of his gang members in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Army, however, stated that it was not responsible for the beheading of the two slain cult members. A group of soldiers were said to have been ambushed on Thursday in Ubima community by some armed members of a cult group, leaving one of them (soldiers) with gunshot injuries. Read more
