UNIMAID student attacks 21-year-old lady for rejecting love proposal (Leadership)

Saleem Ibrahim, a student of Department of Biochemistry in the  University of Maiduguri, has inflicted a grievous wound on one Hauwa Abatcha Ngala for refusing his love advances.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, it was alleged that Saleem had tried for some time to force Hauwa to love him, but not quite convinced by his advances, Hauwa was said to have searched her mind for any speck of love she could have for him, but couldn’t find any.

The report added that Hauwa reportedly convinced herself, and all along tried to convince Saleem Ibrahim that she nursed no feelings or emotions for him in the name of love. Read more

For 10 days, the nation is understandably simmering over the butchery of 17 officers and personnel of the Nigerian Army, who journeyed on a peace mission to Okuama, an Urhobo community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, on March 14.

The subsequent discovery that the heartless killers beheaded some of the soldiers and mutilated the remains of others infuriated Nigerians the more.

Even more worrisome is the truth that the killers also collected the arms and ammunition of the Nigerian Army found in the possession of the assassinated soldiers, a development that no security agency would joke with until the weapons are found and retrieved. Read more 

Lagos announces traffic diversions on Ikeja bridge (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has announced a three-hour traffic diversion to install some components on the pedestrian bridge at Ikeja Along.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr.Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

Osiyemi said this was to ensure the safety of pedestrians on Ikeja Along connecting with the Ikeja Train Station to access the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Red Line. Read more

Abure no longer LP’s chairman – NLC (Nation)

The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Political Commission on Friday said that Julius Abure was no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

The commission said that Abure’s claim that Wednesday’s picketing of the national secretariat of the Party led to the theft of staff salary was “sarcastic and pathetic.”

Insecurity: Immigration Service to rejig Border Corps – CG (DailyTrust)

The Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has disclosed that the Service is about to rejig its Border Corps Unit as part of efforts to police the country’s borders effectively.

She disclosed this while speaking with journalists after the commissioning of 30 operational vehicles for border surveillance and patrol at the Service headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

Daily Trust reports that the Border Corps Unit was introduced in 2014 by the federal government to tackle security challenges occasioned by the country’s porous borders. Read more 

31% pass as WAEC releases 2024 CBT exam results for private candidates (Tribune)

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has released the results of its first-ever conducted Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates early this year.

The exam was the first series for private candidates for the year as the second series will take place between November and December.

A total of 8,139 candidates (3,862 males and 4,277 females), representing 47.45% and 52.55%, respectively, including 21 persons with disabilities, sat the examination at 140 CBT centres spread across the country. Read more

The Princess of Wales says she is in the early stages of treatment after a cancer diagnosis.

Russian authorities say at least 40 killed in Moscow concert hall shooting (AlJazeera)

Gunmen burst into a big concert hall in Moscow and fired automatic weapons at the crowd, killing 40 people and wounding more than 100, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS, citing the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Russian news reports said the assailants also used explosives, causing a massive blaze at the Crocus City Hall on the western edge of Moscow on Friday.

Russia’s Ministry of Health said some of those injured have already been admitted to medical facilities. Read more

Kevin Bacon announced on Today that he will return to the high school where he shot Footloose more than four decades ago. The school is Payson High School in Payson, Utah, and its students have spent the last several months launching a social media campaign (#BaconToPayson) to get Bacon to visit on prom day. The students re-created scenes from the movie on TikTok, learned the iconic Footloose dance and more all in hopes of getting Bacon’s attention. And it worked.

Happy Gilmore star Christopher McDonald hopes that the Adam Sandler-led sports comedy is driving toward a follow-up.

McDonald, who played villain Shooter McGavin in director Dennis Dugan’s 1996 Universal movie, said during an appearance Friday on Audacy radio show 92.3 The Fan that Sandler recently showed him a draft of the script for a Happy Gilmore sequel.

“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” McDonald recalls. “He shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.” The actor continued, “He did show me that, and I thought, ‘Wow, that would be awesome.’ So it’s in the works. Fans demand it, damn it!” Read more

Germany’s football association has been accused of lacking in patriotism after its decision to dismiss Adidas as the main supplier of the national team kit.

Politicians and football journalists expressed shock and disdain on Friday after it emerged that the contract will be passed from Adidas, a German firm, to US brand Nike from 2027.

“I can hardly imagine the German jersey without the three stripes,” Robert Habeck, the German vice-chancellor and economy minister, said. “For me, Adidas and black-red-gold always belonged together. A piece of German identity.” Read more

The Boston Celtics shoot more 3-point field goals than any team in the NBA and it’s not particularly close.

They are attempting 42.6 3-pointers per game, three more than any other team. Only eight other teams are shooting more than 37 3-pointers per game.

Bayern Munich legend claims third club are working on deal for Xabi Alonso along with Liverpool (LiverpoolEcho)

Bayern Munich legend Uli Hoeness has claimed that Liverpool and his old club are “working” on a deal to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new boss – along with Real Madrid.

The Reds have been heavily linked with hiring Alonso as their next manager ever since it was confirmed that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving the club at the end of the season. Klopp announced the news on January 26 and since then the rumours have been swirling as to who could be his successor in the Anfield dugout.
