We are prepared to attain university status, AOCOED community tells Ambode (Guardian)

Academic and non-academic staff of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Lagos, have made a clarion call to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to make a formal declaration on the proposed Adeniran Ogunsanya University of Education, saying they are fully prepared to metamorphose into a degree awarding institution.

The workers, comprising of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (SSUCOEN), Non-Academic Staff union (NASU), past union leaders, and elder statesmen maintained that the time is long over due, appealing to the governor to grant them their request before June this year when the college will be 60.

Addressing journalists at COEASU secretariat, Chairman of the union, Comrade Michael Avosetinyen, said they have been yearning for the upgrade of the college over the years, and have been able to convince the governor that university education is not only the trend but also cultural as Nigerian society is no longer interested in colleges of education.
