Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has stated that it has sufficient evidence to show that the Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi convincingly won the presidential election of Saturday, 25 February 2023.

It stated that it is impressed, thrilled, and fascinated by the groundswell and intimidating mass movement, which has come to signify the consciousness of the paradigm shift from a consumption economy to a production economy, which the Obi-Datti movement symbolizes in present-day Nigeria.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo was reacting to reports credited to one Ambassador Tony Chiemelu Obizoba that “the Peter Obi presidency on the platform of the Labour Party is not destined to happen in 2023”. Read more 

Banks resume paying Nigerians old N500, N1000 notes (DailyTrust)

Following the Supreme Court judgment, which extended the validity of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) currency redesign policy to December, some deposit money banks have started paying out the old notes.

Daily Trust checks showed that some commercial banks in the City of Kano and Abuja have commenced paying out the old N500 and N1000 notes.

While some branches of Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) issued out old notes, some others like Polaris Bank in Abuja had not commenced as of the time this report was filed. Read more 

Chrisland: Court fixes inquest hearing for April 4 (Guardian)

The Coroner Inquest set-up to ascertain the cause of death of a 12-year-old Chrisland School pupil, Whitney Adeniran, who died on February 9, has fixed April 4 for hearing to commence.

Magistrate Olabisi Fajana fixed the date after entertaining submissions of all Counsels, who appeared before the Court sitting in Ikeja Magistrates ‘Court.

The counsel to the deceased family, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, had informed the court that they were unable to file a witness statement as instructed by the court at the last adjourned date. Read more

Lagos inaugurates control room for water transportation (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art control room at the Lagos State Waterways jetty at Falomo in the Ikoyi area of the state where all water transport activities are monitored to ensure safety.

In addition, the state purchased well-equipped rescue boats for monitoring and quick response which have enabled a reduction in incidences of boat mishaps.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Mrs Olayinka Patunola-Ajayi, while receiving the President and Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Johnbull Amayaevbo, at her office. Read more

Women professionals from Kogi Central Senatorial District, yesterday, trooped out to express their gratitude to voters who turned out en masse to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the presidential and National Assembly elections penultimate Saturday.

The women, who thanked Kogi people and Governor Yahaya Bello for the election, said the road walk became necessary to demonstrate that women in the state, generally, were solidly behind the governor for giving them the voice they had been clamouring for over the years, urging him to do more.

Domestic worker cuts off genitals of 72-year-old woman for money rituals (Independent)

The genital of a 72-year-old woman identified as Onyebuchi Ezeh has been cut off including other parts of her body by her domestic staff, in an attempt to use them for money rituals.

It was gathered that the incident happened in Umunze, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Thursday.

The victim was reportedly rescued by neighbours who later took her to the hospital after she raised an alarm and the suspect confessed that he and some others at large, committed the act on the instruction of a native doctor, who had promised to make them rich if they brought the required organs. One person is dead and at least eight others injured after false fears of a shooting sparked a stampede during a GloRilla concert in Rochester, New York, on Sunday night, police said.

Rappers GloRilla and Finesse2tymes were performing at the Main Street Armory when fans thought they heard gunfire inside the venue at around 11 p.m., the Rochester Police Department told The Associated Press.

Police found “no evidence to support a shooting having occurred” inside the concert, Rochester Police Lt. Nicholas Adams said in a statement, according to the AP. Read more

Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington died Sunday. He was 71.

The band’s representative confirmed Rossington’s death with Fox News Digital.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says there would be “consequences” if China sent weapons to Russia for Moscow’s war in Ukraine, but he’s fairly optimistic that Beijing will refrain from doing so.

Scholz’s comments came in an interview with CNN that aired Sunday, two days after he met the U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington.

U.S. officials have warned recently that China could step off the sidelines and begin providing arms and ammunition to Moscow. Ahead of his trip, Scholz had urged Beijing to refrain from sending weapons and instead use its influence to press Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine. Read more
