22 suspected Internet fraudsters arrested in Lagos (Punch)

No fewer than 22 suspected Internet fraudsters have been arrested by the Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

A statement on Tuesday by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed that the suspects were rounded up on January 23 on the Terra Annex Estate, Sangotedo, in the Ajah area of Lagos, following intelligence report.

The agency had last Thursday arrested 16 suspected Internet fraudsters at the Ziroc Residence Hotel, Lekki.

Uwujaren identified the latest suspects as Muyiwa Adetola, Adeolu Damilade, Oritsetimeyin Abel, Ademola Lekan, Abayomi Qudus, Isaac Chibueze, Ayeni Olarewaju, Aminu Kelvin, Ajama Patrick and Nesta Olotu. Read more

We’re not involved in death at Oshodi, says Lagos Task Force (Tribune)

Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force), on Tuesday, washed off its hand in the death of a young man at Oshodi earlier in the day “as being falsely reported on the social media.”

Chairman of the agency, CSP Shola Jejeloye, said this in a statement made available to newsmen, stating that the young man was knocked down as he was trying to cross the Oshodi Expressway by a commercial bus driver, who took off recklessly at a high speed, having noticed the presence of a Lagos Task Force vehicle, while illegally loading passengers by the roadside in Oshodi.

This was just as the Jejeloye vowed that the affected commercial bus driver would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law of the land. Read more

Lagos welder brutalises sexagenarian, wife over electricity bill (Punch)

A sexagenarian, Paul Okedare, and his wife, Funke, are in pain after a co-tenant, identified only as Tunde, allegedly brutalised them at their residence on Unity Street, in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Tunde, a welder, had a disagreement with the couple which bordered on his inability to pay his share of the house electricity bill.

Our correspondent learnt that Funke was in the kitchen preparing food for her 62-year-old husband when she went to the corridor to fetch water from a drum.

While fetching the water, Tunde, who was also fetching water from his drum, allegedly splashed water on the woman. Read more

EFCC arrests 16 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 16 suspects in the Lekki area of the state for alleged Internet fraud.

Some of the suspects are Habeeb Adebayo, Marcus Wisdom, Caleb Ezekiel, Akinduro Henry, Osarobo Osasere, and Oyelami Olatunji.

Others are Pelumi Glory, Ehibor Joseph, Emmanuel Timileyin, Jefta Akpan, Okirhie Rukewe, Oxford Robbinson, Onyeka Odika, Uzoma Gideon, Adebayo Oluwatobi, and Isreal Ugochukwu.

A statement on Monday by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed that the suspects were rounded up on January 21 at the Ziroc Residence Hotel, Lekki, by operatives who had been tracking their activities. Read more

Police arrest 12 suspects in Aguda mayhem (Guardian)

The Police Command in Lagos State said it has arrested 12 suspects in connection with the clash between some youths in the Aguda area of Surulere on Sunday.

This is contained in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday in Lagos.

Adejobi said that the incident left one Munero, a male, dead.

“Arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects who are helping the police in their investigation.

“Munero is alleged to be a serial killer in the area and was lynched by irate youths.

“We have restored normalcy to the area,” the police officer said. Read more

Fake policeman nabbed with Indian hemp in Lagos (Punch)

A man, David Omoruyi, has been arrested by policemen attached to the Area ‘E’ Command of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly having in his possession a fake police identity card and 30kg of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp at the Alaba Rago Market in the Ojo area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that Omoruyi and his fleeing accomplices were carrying the weeds on their head when policemen accosted them around 12.12am on Tuesday, adding that while Omoruyi was arrested, his accomplices fled.

Adejobi stated, “The police operatives attached to the Area ‘E’ Command in Festac, on January 19, 2021, around 12.12am, arrested one David Omoruyi, 37, of No. 4 Job Street, Afromedia, Otto-Awori LCDA, Lagos, in possession of a fake police identity card and 30kg of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

3 feared dead as cult members clash in Lagos (Punch)

Three persons were feared killed on Sunday in a clash between rival cults, the Aiye and Eiye confraternities, in the Aguda area of Surulere, Lagos State.

It was gathered that the cultists, who wielded weapons such as machetes, axe, planks and broken bottles, caused panic among the residents of the area.

Some of the streets affected in include Enitan, Willy Omiyi, Akinyele and Adetola.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the fight, which started on Saturday, led to the death of one Tunde Alado, who was allegedly killed by the leader of the Aiye Confraternity, identified simply as Muleru. Read more
