When singers become actors – Catch Sheyi Shay in ‘Lara and the Beat’ –Goddey Odin

Over the years, we have seen musical artistes drop the mic to become actors. Female musical artistes and some of their male counterparts have always been drawn to the movies. It can mark a major career move with dramatic consequences – it either blows your career sky high or drowns it.

A few weeks ago, musical artiste, Sheyi Shay, made her Nollywood debut with her star turn in the Biola Alabi vehicle, Lara and The Beat. The movie revolves around the young and beautiful Giwa sisters caught in the centre of a financial scandal in their late parents’ media empire.

The sisters are forced out of their privileged bubble and must learn to build their own future and salvage their family’s past.

With this movie, which also features star acts like Vector, DJ Xclusive, Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama, Chinedu Ikedieze, Bimbo Manuel, Chioma Akpotha, and Deyemi Okanlawon, Sheyi joins a long list of musical stars who have “tried their hand” as movie stars.
