Although a Federal High Court in Abuja granted him bail in the sum of N50 million, suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, will not be released, Daily Trust can report.

Kyari, who is facing charges of failure to declare assets alongside his siblings, was granted bail on Thursday.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had filed a 24-count charges against DCP Kyari, his brothers Mohammed Baba and Ali before the court over his failure to declare properties allegedly linked to him in the asset form. Read more

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.

This latest move the presidency says is in consonance with Tinubu’s promise to remove all barriers impeding business growth in Nigeria,

According to a statement on Friday by the president’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Dele Alake, the committee will be chaired by Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Mr. Taiwo Oyedele. Read more

The Supreme Court has quashed the conviction and sentence of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi representing Delta North senatorial district at the Senate.

Senator Nwaoboshi who is currently held in Ikoyi correctional facility, Lagos state, was sentenced to seven years for offences bordering on fraud and money laundering.

But in a split decision of four-to-one, the apex court on Friday, ordered his immediate release from the Ikoyi prisons where he is currently held. Read more

Ebere, the sibling of a Lagos-based businessman, Amarah Kennedy, who allegedly circulated the nude photos of two single mothers he dated, has condemned his action.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, under the leadership of Prof. Isaq Oloyede for maintaining the integrity and sanctity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, it conducts.

The association, in a statement by the Vice President, External Affairs, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, said the commendation became necessary going by the test to which the Board’s activities were put to recently and from which it came out untainted.

Bayelsa hands over rescued fishermen to Sao Tome and Principe (Nation)

The Bayelsa State Government has formally handed over three fishermen who lost their way on the Gulf of Guinea to the Sao Tome and Principe’s Head of Mission in Nigeria.

Speaking in Government House, Yenagoa, during the formal handover Governor Douye Diri lauded the local fishermen in Okpoama community in Brass Local Government of the state, who rescued their fellow fishermen on the Atlantic Ocean.

Warner Bros studio has said a map of the South China Sea in its film “Barbie” has no political significance after Vietnam announced it would ban the upcoming release for featuring China’s controversial nine-dash line.

Vietnam’s Department of Cinema this week said it would deny a licence for the film, which was due to hit the country’s screens on July 21, over a scene that features a map showing China’s expansive claims over the South China Sea.

US plans to send controversial cluster munitions to Ukraine (BBC)

The US is planning to send Ukraine a cluster munitions package to help in its counteroffensive against Russia, US media reports.

Ukraine has been asking for the weapons for months amid an ammunition shortage.

Cluster munitions – which are banned by more than 100 countries – are a class of weapons that contain multiple explosive bomblets called submunitions. Read more

LPGA Tour rookie, Natthakritta Vongtaveelap, saw her debut start at the US Women’s Open come to an abrupt end after the Thai golfer was disqualified after just five holes.

Vongtaveelap was even par through five holes but was not allowed to continue after USGA officials found that her caddie, Jinsup Kim, had used a rangefinder on multiple occasions.
