Frank Lampard enjoyed a wildly successful 13-year spell at Chelsea which shocked the world of football when it came to an end in 2014.

Having signed from West Ham for £11m, the midfielder became part of the furniture at Stamford Bridge, making 648 appearances for the club and scoring 211 goals.

Lampard won three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League with the Blues.

So when he announced he was leaving the club at the age of 35, fans were stunned, and then outraged that he went on to play for Manchester City. But why did it happen?
