The operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 12-year-old boy for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl.

The father of the girl reported to the police that he got an anonymous call informing him that his daughter had been kidnapped.

The anonymous caller demanded N150,000 from the girl’s father as ransom before his daughter would be released.

The Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, stated these in a media statement made available to journalists in the state on Saturday. Read more 

How we were robbed by ‘one chance’ gang in Lagos – victims (Vanguard)

Some victims of ‘cne chance’ robbery, on Sunday, narrated how they were robbed by a suspected four-man gang at Ikate, Lekki-Ajah area of Lagos. 

However,  operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, rescued the victims and arrested two members of the gang while two others escaped during.

Narrating the incident, one of the rescued passengers Mr. Christopher Omukoro said he boarded the unpainted commercial bus from Alfa-Beach supposedly going to Ikate.

According to him,  four members of the gang were with a Point of Service (P.O.S) machine collecting passengers Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and withdrawing money from their bank accounts. Read more 

Osun State: Adeleke reverses appointments made by Oyetola (Guardian)

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reversed all appointments Adegboyega Oyetola, his predecessor, made from July 7, 2022, till he left office.

Adeleke, who was sworn in as Osun State governor on Sunday, also ordered the immediate freezing of all accounts of the state.

Speaking after taking his oath of office at the Osogbo City Stadium, Adeleke said he was aware of the expectations of Osun residents, promising not to disappoint them.

He also promised to transform education, security, healthcare, infrastructure, local government administration, judiciary, public service, among other sectors.

He said he would raise a committee to review all appointments and make recommendations. Read more 

Obi’s facts, figures verifiable, media team replies Tinubu (Punch)

The media team of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has stated that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress does not appreciate facts and figures used by opponents in place of mere rhetoric.

The team noted Obi’s claims were verifiable, and that many analysts had been on them.

In a statement made available to The PUNCH on Sunday, the Ob-Datti Media Office said it noted the attempts by Tinubu and his party to cast aspersions on the informed use of statistics by his counterpart, Obi, declaring that the APC candidate could not stand Obi’s statistics.

NDLEA nabs man, 56 with cocaine in sandals, declares kingpin wanted (Vanguard)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the weekend smashed a major cocaine syndicate in Lagos following the arrest of a 56-year-old trafficker, Lawal Lateef Oyenuga.

Oyenuga was on a mission to deliver 400grams of the class ‘A’ drug concealed in a pair of palm sandals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi said the swift follow up led to the arrest of a wanted notorious kingpin, Wasiu Sanni Gbolahan popularly known as Teacher, who recruits mules for the cartel.

According to him, “NDLEA operatives attached to the screening point of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos had on Thursday 24th November intercepted Lawal Lateef Oyenuga with a pair of black palm sandals packed in the luggage he was going with to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airways flight. The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday, hit the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar again, saying that his supporters are ready to end the political sojourn of the ex-vice president in 2023 with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He said that no matter the antics of his opponents, none of them could kill him. 

Tinubu who made the remarks, while addressing his supporters during the Lagos APC presidential rally at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere organized by the party in the state yesterday, was received by a large crowd.

Troops neutralise 4 bandits, recover weapon in Kaduna (Nation)

Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have neutralised four bandits during clearance operations in identified hideouts around Tsohon Gayan, Chikun Local Government area of Kaduna State.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan who made this known in a statement also said the troops recovered an AK47 from the bandits.

According to the commissioner, the troops made contact and pursued the fleeing bandits. Two bandits were neutralized during the engagement, while credible human intelligence sources revealed that two others died from gunshot wounds.

“Credible sources in the general area reported that two of the four neutralized have been identified as Dogo Mallam and Bello Mallam.

“The troops recovered one AK47 rifle, one magazine with 22 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle. Read more 

Suspected female robber, teenage boy arrested with toy gun in Ogun (Independent)

A 29-year-old lady, Chioma Okafor, has been arrested in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, by the Ogun State Police Command, for alleged armed robbery.

Okafor was arrested alongside a 19-year-old boy, Nweke Joshua, “while carrying out a robbery operation,” the Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Sunday.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the suspects were arrested after a distress call was received at the Mowe police division at about 9:30 pm on Friday.

According to Oyeyemi, the police had been informed that the suspected armed robbers had invaded a food stuff shop owned by one Johnson Nwokoro at Safari Junction, Adesan, while dispossessing him of his money. Read more

Fame star Lee Curreri is among those paying tribute to his former co-star Irene Cara following her death aged 63.

In a statement shared on the official Twitter account for Cara, her publicist Judith Moose confirmed the Flashdance…What A Feeling singer had died, writing: ‘It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara.

‘The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter and producer passed away in her Florida home. Her cause of death is currently unknown and will be released when information is available.’

The burgeoning Bangladesh film industry made an impact at both South Asian film market Film Bazaar and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa.

Bangladesh feature film “Agantuk” (aka “The Stranger”) by Biplob Sarkar was named as unanimous winner of the Prasad DI award, conferred by the Film Bazaar Recommends jury in Goa. Besides Sarkar, there was a strong contingent from Bangladesh including Abu Shahed Emon (“No Ground Beneath the Feet”), Bijon, who is part of the “Solo” team that has scored CNC funding and Redoan Rony, head of streamer Chorki.

In addition, four Bangladeshi films are selected at IFFI. Noor Iman’s “A House With No Name,” produced by Emon, Akram Khan’s “A Tale of Two Sisters” and Khandaker Sumon’s “Memories of Gloomy Monsoons” all had their world premieres at the festival, while Gias Uddin Selim’s “Vice and Virtue” had its international premiere. In the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe feature, Killmonger (Michael B Jordan), the villain from the first film, returned in a brief cameo when Shuri (Letitia Wright) visited the Ancestral Plane.

Discussing the return of the character, co-screenwriter Joe Robert Cole told Rolling Stone that everyone was “excited” about the plot development.

Italy landslide: Rescuers search for missing people on Ischia island (BBC)

Rescue teams in Italy are still searching for missing people after a massive mudslide on the island of Ischia, near Naples, destroyed homes and dragged cars into the sea.

Two people have been confirmed dead. Eleven others remain unaccounted for.

More than 100 firefighters, as well as divers and earthmoving units, have been deployed to Ischia, Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said.
