Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” is first African album to get RIAA Gold

Afrobeat singer Wizkid has made history once again in the U.S.

He has become the first Nigerian artist to have a RiAA Gold Certification.

His 4th studio album, “Made In Lagos” becomes the first African album to be certified Gold in USA, the world’s largest music market.

The album was released on October 30, 2020 by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records.

It features guest appearances from Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Tay Iwar, Projexx, Tems, Damian Marley, Terri and was produced by P2J.

Although the award-winning album is the first certified gold, a number of African artistes have had their singles certified gold by the RIAA.

Some of the artist whose singles have been certified gold are Ayo Jay – ‘Your number’ in 2017, Davido – ‘Fall’ in 2020, Wizkid ft Drake – ‘Come closer’ in 2020, Davido – ‘If’ in 2021, Burna Boy – ‘Ye’ in 2021, Rotimi ft Wale – ‘In my bed’ in 2021.

Wizkid’s summer hit, Essence, is also the first African song to be certified 2x Platinum in USA.
