Woman in court for alleged N2.1m fraud

The police in Lagos State on Tuesday arraigned a 38-year-old woman, Precious Nzewunwa, who allegedly defrauded her employer of N2.1 million.

The defendant, a language translator, resides at 14, Badejoko St., Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos State.

She is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing, but pleaded not guilty before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences from March 2023 to October 2023 at Egatee Nig. Ltd. located at 1, Motorway Oregun, Lagos State.

Akeem said that the defendant altered and falsified a vendor’s receipt to inflate figures and defraud her employer of N2.1 million.

The prosecutor said that the fraud was discovered when the company’s account was audited.

He said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287 and 338 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case until Jan. 29 for mention. (NAN)
