The National President, NARTO, Yusuf Othman, told journalists in Abuja on Monday that “our people have parked their trucks and more people are going to park (theirs).”

Blood pressure warning over long-term paracetamol use (BBC)

People with high blood pressure who take paracetamol on prescription could be increasing their risk of heart attacks and strokes, a study suggests.

Doctors should think about the risks and benefits to patients taking it over many months, the University of Edinburgh researchers say.

Taking the painkiller for headaches and fevers is safe, they stress.

Other experts say research in more people over a longer timeframe is needed to confirm the findings.

Paracetamol is widely used around the world as a short-term remedy for aches and pains but also prescribed to manage chronic pain, despite little evidence of its benefit for long-term use.

Half a million people – one out of every 10 – in Scotland were prescribed the painkiller in 2018.

High blood pressure affects one out of every three people in the UK. Read more

Coming on the heels of Sorry 4 The Wait’s arrival to streaming services, Lil Wayne gifted fans with a flashy new music video for “Cameras” on Monday (February 7), which is one of the tape’s four new additions and features Young Money signee Allan Cubas.

The video for the Pi’erre Bourne-produced track is simple and clean as Weezy and Allan relax near Lil Wayne’s infinity pool while bikini-clad women snap pictures and play with pool toys. “Cameras” is one of four new tracks to appear on Sorry 4 The Wait since its debut to streaming. The three other new songs included are called “Lil Romeo,” “Bleu Snappin’” and “Anti-Hero” featuring Lil Tecca.

Benny Andersson has now addressed the reports and told PA: ‘You can’t call it an Abba party. It is a Johnson party where they happened to play some Abba music. It is not an Abba party.’ Read more

Irving Azoff’s music rights firm ends legal battle with radio stations (Variety)

Irving Azoff’s music rights firm has settled its five-year legal battle with the group that represents more than 10,000 radio stations, ending a fight that threatened to undermine the 80-year-old arrangement under which artists are paid for commercial airplay.

Azoff’s Global Music Rights and the Radio Music License Committee filed a joint stipulation on Monday to dismiss the antitrust lawsuits that they had filed against each other in 2016. The two sides also announced in a press release that a majority of commercial radio stations have agreed to a long-term license with GMR, which allows the settlement to take effect.

GMR launched in 2013 as a direct challenge to ASCAP and BMI, the performance rights organizations that control more than 90% of music copyrights. Azoff was able to obtain rights from a relative handful of songwriters whose songs had been performed by John Lennon, U2, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and others. Those songs were deemed must-haves for radio catalogs, and GMR then sought significantly higher rates than its artists were receiving under ASCAP and BMI.

The RMLC is a non-profit group that handles rate negotiations for commercial stations. Talks between GMR and RMLC broke down in 2016, prompting each side to sue the other for alleged antitrust violations, and leading to years of costly and inconclusive litigation. Read more

British director Joanna Hogg on the joys of filming memory in motion (RFI)

The Souvenir Part II is not just a stroll down memory lane for British director Joanna Hogg. It is a powerful portrait of the filmmaking process itself. Although designed to be a sequel, the film stands alone in its exploration of love, life and cinema. Shown as part of the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes in 2021, it was released in France on 2 February.

Joanna Hogg kept her diaries from the 1980s, and even certain items of clothing and objects, like talismans for a time capsule. Did she suspect that forty years later she would hand these items over to her team of actors to make two semi-biographical feature films, The Souvenir Part I and Part II?

“The idea came from thinking about the beginning of my filmmaking career,” Joanna Hogg says. “It’s the story of a woman who is just starting to be recognised for her true value as an artist.”

The Souvenir Part II picks up where Part I left off, telling the story of Julie, roughly based on Hogg’s own experiences as a student at film school in the UK. It should be noted that it is not necessary to see the first film to understand the second. Read more

Latifi excited to race with long-anticipated new regs (PlanetF1)

Williams’ Nicholas Latifi looks forward to finally getting out onto the track with the new Formula 1 regulations in place.

The challengers will look far different for 2022 as Formula 1 tries to generate closer racing and more overtaking, while it is also hoped that the more restrictive rules will reduce the gap between the front and the back of the grid.

LeBron James convinced Los Angeles Lakers ‘in this together’ as Russell Westbrook struggles (ABC)

While much of the discourse about this season’s Los Angeles Lakers has centered around the acquisition of Russell Westbrook and how the point guard has not been an ideal fit, LeBron James insists there is no one player responsible for the team still scuffling along below .500 as the trade deadline approaches.

“At the end of the day, as his brother, we’re all in this together,” James said after practice Monday. “We’re all in the foxhole together. There is not one guy who is doing it by themselves. There’s not one guy you can blame over another guy. There’s not one guy who gets the praise over another guy. When we lose, we all lose. When we win, we all win. It’s really that simple.”

Westbrook was benched for the entire overtime session in L.A.’s 122-115 come-from-behind win over the New York Knicks on Saturday.

He shot just 1-for-10 from the field, marking the fifth time this season in which Westbrook attempted 10 field goals or more and only made three field goals or fewer. His points, rebounds, assists, steals, field goal percentage and 3-point percentages are all down from the numbers he posted last season with the Washington Wizards. Read more
